have you considered a 2uz a750 transmission? it should bolt up to the 1uz engine and give you an extra gear...

It's pretty involved, I wouldn't attempt it on a daily driver. This transmission was supposedly rebuilt before I got it so I just disassembled it and changed the output shaft.

I have and I could since I'm doing my own transmission wiring. My truck originally came with an a340e and besides having to change the rear output shaft, the transmission just bolts in the cross member and I reuse my old driveshaft. I'm pretty sure an a750 would be longer requiring more work. It's also some I could do later down the line if I decide to.

Still waiting for some parts for the tranny but I got most of the interior back together. The v8 ecu's new home is the glove box and there's still room for some other stuff.
    PXL_20201111_185928239.jpg

Got the sequencial shifter mounted and the center console cut.

    PXL_20201111_194601169.jpg

I also got my 12 pin deutsch bulkhead mounted. All the wires from the tranny go through this. Incase my arduino controlling the tranny fails I can unplug it and plug in a manual control box with a rotary switch for each gear.

lol I can tell you how I did mine

I'm currently just using that manual box for now until I get the rest of the tranny smoothed out. I did do a short drive around the block and I did notice my speedo worked which is odd, because no speed sensor from the tranny was wired. I think the speedo was pulling from the abs sensors.

The speedo does pull from the abs wiring . Awesome project dude

Yeah it was a pleasant surprise, I was like hmmm one less thing I still need to wire. Don't worry once I have it running better there will be plenty of pictures and videos.

Yeah what gearcruncher said, it'll use both but kinda just to double check the one, but really it only needs one signal.

I'm all ears on the arduino/pi info as I'm still confused about what I really need or if I'm confusing myself and it's actually more simple than I think it is.

Some people don't even use a microcontroller, they just use the shifter and some diodes. Won't lie I feel like a raspberry pi is alittle over kill lol. Im just using an arduino uno with some relays but will have more info when I have a working transmission lol

Sooooooo I hit a road block with the transmission not working so hopefully the sequoia at my local junkyard still has it's a340e. Beside that I ordered some stuff to move my front cross member higher as well as add real recovery points.

Actually I just realized I'm going to be switching to an arduino mega because I want some extra I/o pins for the dash display. Once I get it ironed out it'll be easier to understand.

From what I've read the pi will support the extra solenoids in the a750 since it uses a combination of PWM duty cycle and I/O of the solenoids to achieve shift fēngshuǐ. Where as the a340 is a easier method on/off, on/on, or off/off combination of the solenoids. It's a bit more complex with the a750 compared to what the a340 requires to make a shift.

That's good to know. I was looking at potential getting an a750 since I need another tranny but opted for the a340 since eventually I'm doing the aw4 dana 300 swap for 4wd with a teralow gear. Im assuming the pwm for the a750 is 12v?

Yes, I believe the ecu adjusts voltage to the determined solenoid to determine the pwm duty cycle equal to or less than 12v. The a750 uses 7 solenoids.

That's a pain since most microcontrollers use 5v or 3.3v. I'm going to cheat and give my gear selection switch on the tranny 5v instead of 12v so my only 12v is outputs through some relays. I think you'll probably have to use some mosfets. Do you know how many pwm signals you need to make?

I'm still reading about it all, but there's been guys that have been researching this for about a decade. It's similar in operation to the 4L60E in the chevys and guys have been using the 4l60e megasquirt shift controller configuration as a baseline with modification of certain operations to tailor to the a750.

Gotta be smart with the space you got, that and work outside most of the time lol. I picked the wrong season to start though with Summer time in South Florida lol

I know you can buy a compushift and it's plug and play for any trans. Except it's like $1200 with a harness lol
