I read some where that some of the v6s with autos can't accept a flywheel and clutch when doing a 5spd swap. I couldn't find anymore info on it. Is there certain years/models that this applies too? Anybody have any info, it would be greatly appreciated.

Where did you read that? From a production stand point it makes no sense to build and produce 2 different engines for the same model line for different transmissions.

What is the reason it won't exept a clutch or flywheel? My 99 3rz was not an issue, and I was in a group of 4-5 people who swapped in 5 speeds around the same time. The others where 5vz engines and in 01-04 Tacoma's and one in a 4runner.

Stories get started like that for some strange reason.

Why have some cranks drilled for a pilot bushing and some not

They should all be drilled for pilot bearings since the torque converter uses the same spot to center itself.

Thanks guys, I can't remember where I read it at (maybe ttora) in my search for knowledge. I was just wondering if it was valid. I figured it was just some nonsense, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

yeah dude. rest easy. in the 12 years ive sold auto prats ive never seen engines or crankshafts depend on what type of transmission the vehicle has. all cranks should be ready to accept a flywheel or flexplate.

heres a pic of the back of a crankshaft for a 2001 3.4 says nothing about auto or manual.

Come to think of it, I was told the trans thing by a guy a long time ago when I was working on a 3.slow. I guess when I read that it just freaked me out again, probably because I was going to buy a trans the next day (yesterday). Like Wyoming09 said, it doesn't make sense to have two different types.
