I'm still looking for the "perfect" deal on a 5th gen, I really want a Trail model since it reminds me a lot of my 3rd gen that is due to be retired soon. Do all of the Trail models have the locking diffs? I thought that they did, as well as the lever shifter for the T-case. I saw one at a local stealership that had no badging and didn't have the red seat stitching up front. It had a locker button ( I wasn't interested enough to crawl underneath and look for the actuator motor on the diff) but a twist knob for the 4wd but had the crawl control overhead consol. I'm thinking that it's was a sport model that someone added a few things to.

Yea all trail models, which got renamed to Offroad, have rear locking differentials.

Before it was easy to tell, if it had a hood scoop, it had a locking diff. But the sport came along after covid and is just an SR5.

Basically look for the dials on the moonroof controls, if it has the dials, it has a locker.

All 5th gen 4Runners with a mechanical lever for 4wd have a factory rear locker. All 5th gen 4Runners with the dial knob for 4wd do not have a factory locker

Agree with the others. You might want to search for TRD Off-Road/ Off-Road Premium trims too, since the Trail name only went so many years.

Also, watch out for the recent "Trail Edition" or whatever it was called in recent years, this was just an SR5 with an appearance / accessory package.

I think op wants the trail edition because it’s the pre face lift (current trd off road) they’re the same thing as the trd off road (the premium has softtext which the trail edition didn’t get)

I love my trd off road premium
