1998 tacoma V6. My 5vz-fe is jumping up to around 1800 RPM on cold start, sits there for a while, and then settles down to around 750 RPM / 'horizontal needle' on idle once it's fully warmed up, which is then perfectly fine & within FSM specs. My doubt is about that cold start RPM of ~1800, which seems kinda high.

I'm curious what other ppl's 5vz's are doing on cold start? RPM's & at what rate do they drop down to 'idle' RPM once they've warmed up.

Could be a vacuum leak. Check all your hoses for cracks on the ends. Even if they’re small, replace it.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
    Is your coolant level correct?

Mine can be that high in the cold temps . I no longer really pay attention.

As long as the idle drops to normal after it warms up no vacuum leaks.

The coolant temp sensor might be sending a signal the ambient air temperature is much colder then it really is.

the colder the temperature the more the IAC opens allowing in more air the more air the higher rpm

Mine starts and then wants to die. I have to step on the gas for a couple seconds, then it idles at 800ish.

Mine always jumps to 1250 on cold starts then settles to 750 after a couple minutes

I actually found a small leak around one of the hoses on top of the plenum, using a DIY baby oil smoke machine. After putting a clamp on it & firing it up, the RPM's seemed to have dropped down; didn't get all the way up to 1800, maybe maxed out at around 1500-1600, and really quickly dropped to like 1200, and then gradually dropped to ~750 once it heated up. So, hopefully problem solved.

Using that homebrew smoke machine rig, I did notice some 'bubbling' from around one of the injectors (I was pumping air into the manifold at around 5-10 psi), which makes me think the FelPro o-rings I just recently put on them are crap. Oh well, gonna have to do for now. I should've just spent the damn money on OEM o-rings.
