Where are the PDFs, datasheets, screenshots of oil analysis? Can't just take some dude's word for it. I'm shocked how many people didn't even begin to question the validity of this "test".

I agree, he posted the exact same thing word for word in a diesel forum. I do believe Amsoil makes top quality products, but hes making some crazy claims. I tried finding something on Amsoils website but im still coming up with nothing.

Yeah, I call bullshit. I could probably shoot an email to Blackstone and ask them hey, are Toyota filters any good? Someone said they barely filter 50% at 20 microns, and they would probably spit out their coffee laughing.

Other than someone in that thread saying that test was "20 years old" I'm not seeing anything else relating to this test. No methodology, no controls, no results, no conclusions. Not going to believe this 50% filtration claim until I see everything.

    I may do that.

I am going to have to warn them that there is an Amsoil fanboy spreading lies on random automotive forums because of his hillbilly science hypothesis testing.

Just emailed Blackstone. I would love to get my hands on an anonymized data set of theirs so that I can do a filter comparison myself.

    Here what’s blackstone responded with:

Thanks for the e-mail. I'm sorry to say we don't do any sort of testing on filters, nor do we get a lot of data about what filers are being used, so I can't help you a whole lot here. I can say that I have never heard anything bad about Toyota's OEM filters. In looking at the links you included, you are correct to be skeptical. In fact, you should take any sort of information like that with a very large grain of salt. You never know who's trying to sell what on the forums.

I've been using STP for the last 3 oil changes. I'm using the ML line as of the last oil change. Hefty filter with synthetic filter media. I change my oil and filter every 4000 miles now for what it's worth.

Ended up going with Fram on the oil change because I didn't have enough time to order the Toyota ones. But before I do my next change, Ill order 10 or so of the OEM because I feel like the Toyota ones are the best quality for the money. But at the risk of starting up another massive filter argument, I have to (dare I say) defend Fram a little. I've been using their filters for years on previous vehicles and never had a single problem. Granted, I change my oil every 3k-4K, so maybe if I went longer, the filters would start to show their weaknesses. I'm not saying their filters are the best, but if you need to do a quick oil change and Walmart is your only option in terms of stores, Fram filters will get the job done. But my Taco is a vehicle I plan on keeping for a while, so from now on, I'll think I'll use the Toyota filters.

Some of their filters are great. It’s just that orange can of death that has tainted their reputation
