I posted something similar to this a little while ago but didn’t get much of anywhere with the answers I got. But I did a injector swap after I got a po304 code, after the swap there’s no code and no missfire but has been puffing white smoke out the tailpipe, (seems like coolant I’m not sure). Any clue what I might’ve messed up and miss placed?

Is it possible that the smoke was there before, and you're just now noticing?

Have you monitored the coolant level?

I would thoroughly check the vacuum and coolant line routing- specifically related to the IAC.

Is is steam (i.e. it evaporates within 5 or so seconds) or smoke (does not evaporate and it stinks)?

Steam should evaporate after driving a mile or so) and I would ignore it. If it continues after 2 miles I would suspect a water leak. If it's smoke, then .

Positive it wasn’t there before, it’s a lot of smoke for sure, I’ll go back over all the lines but I’m pretty sure everything is where it was, if I get some time today I’ll double check all of them to be sure

smoke for sure, doesn’t clear up and smells for sure, I haven’t really driven it to see if that would clear it up but seeing how much it is smoking I doubt that would be the issue

Does it smell sweet, like coolant? Can’t see how changing the injectors would introduce coolant into the combustion chambers but like others said, go back over all lines you touched.

Otherwise it’s a head gasket, recommend not driving it until you figure it out.

An incorrectly plumbed vacuum/water by-pass line would pump coolant into the TB through the IAC... :anonymous:

Oof, hope you didn’t learn that the hard way. You’d have to clamp the coolant line onto the vacuum port else it would be spraying coolant everywhere - that’s an advanced screw up

I have not personally done that... But people jamb hoses on the wrong stuff all the time, so it's certainly possible.

How many miles on this engine?

If its a moderate coolant leak.....your coolant level should be dropping...

any chance you've got access to a bora-scope...

have you pulled that plug and looked at it.....

haven’t driven it since, only started it up and backed it in/out of the shop, I wouldn’t necessarily say sweet but it doesn’t quite smell like just exhaust. I don’t really see how it would’ve introduced coolant either but I also can’t see how it would’ve caused a headgasket to go? I’ve had headgasket concerns since I bought the truck but nothing was seeming to be wrong, up until now.

almost 213,000 on the truck, engine is iffy I bought it at 208 and I don’t have shit for a history on the truck, I know there was previous heagasket issues but I’m not sure at this point if that was on another motor or what the deal was. Not sure if we’ve got a bora scope lying around I’d have to dig, which plug are your referring too?

Forgot to mention in my first post that I went ahead and swapped all 6 injectors, worth looking at all plugs? I’ve got some time tomorrow I can probably go look, it’s sitting out of town at our shop right now so it’s not super convenient to go work on especially as things r getting pretty effin cold. Also got a cooling system pressure tester that I’ll try out. I’ve been worried about the head gaskets since I bought the vehicle but I don’t see how they would blow after the swap? Either way thank all of you for the helpful info!

Finally got some time for lookin, and things ain’t lookin good I’ve got coolant in with my oil now and I’d pulled a couple spark plugs and one had a bunch of oil around the threads. My guess is the headgasket finally went. I’d bought it with little info, some of which being that they’d blown before and been fixed and then blown again and that was its current state? But it ended up running fine. I could give a whole history in my possession but it’s a long effin story
