Also I’m sure when filming this what I meant was it’s only audible after being fully warm. As y’all know these engines run at quite a high RPM before warm so you can’t really hear noises like this.

Sounds like the drivers side firewall mounted vsv evap switch tick puffing. Loudness varies over time. Quiets down after a good cycle. Fuel injectors also tick.

Is the dollar bill/paper at the exhaust method a reliable way to check valve issues without tearing the top end apart?

I'm currently at 265k. Timing belt, water pump done at 153k. Fuel injectors and valve cover gaskets were just done, rookie mechanic didn't think to check valves. could have an unknown amount of miles since the last check. Truck runs good, Plenty of power great mileage, no oil/coolant consumption. Thermostat overheated very briefly at 170k before fix.

Ignore check Valves until signs present of an issue?

I have a 2rz.....and sitting in the driver seat....I had this loud ticking....

when idling after warm up.....drove me nuts...

If you stuck your head under the hood next to the vapor canister it was louder then the whole engine...
but especially when sitting in the driver seat...for some reason.....2RZ tho....

Its was that dang vsv valve out of the canister on the hose to the TB intake .....

So I went bought a New one.......guess what....the new one... even louder.....
    unbelievable.....I give up....

I had this problem too. I also replaced the VSV. And the new one clicked also.. I then found out I had the vacuum lines connected to the vsv in the wrong order. I reversed the lines and no more noise.

Dang......pays to hang out here....cant wait to try that...

If you have a higher end scanner....you can watch that valve opening/closing....
and the egr one closing as you accelerate....opening again at idle.....
