Aside from the manual transmission, clutch pedal, and ECU, what other parts would I need to do this? Do I need the transfer case from a manual car or can I use the one that came with my automatic? Will I be able to reuse the TC bolts for the flywheel, and will I need a new (different) pilot bearing? Do I need the components from the same year (2000) or could I go as far up to '04?

    Thanks

Having done a few your best bet is just get a complete donor and drag it home

You will need complete 5 speed transfer case and transmission .

Not sure if the cross member is different because I just swapped the one with the case and transmission

New Transmission mount while things are apart .

Easier to run a new steel clutch hydraulic line to the soft line then a new steel to the slave cylinder

All the assorted brackets to support and attach the line

Don`t forget the brake pedal the smaller manual brake pedal

The correct bolts for the fly wheel Flex plate bolts are to short

Rear drive shaft .Make sure the drive shaft and transfer case flanges match

New pilot bearing as the auto transmission do not have one.

It is the little niggling things that cause hours of running around

This is what having all the parts handy makes it so easy even if your going new it is there to see

No doubt things missed there always is .

Great, appreciate the extensive reply. I'm in PA as well, where did you get your donors? Would an equivalent generation 4Runner work as a donor?

    Just watch around Craig`s list

Ebay but not for a few years

Keep an eye on the different Forums they pop up

People give up on bad frames with good drive trains

The 4 Runner you might run into drive shaft length issues .

I have not been under enough of that vintage 4runner

Another thing you need to jumper out the neutral safety switch can be quite frustrating when it does not crank .

    Just where in Pa ??
