I was listening to the stereo, two-stepped it, and my battery light started flickering. I did some Googling and people are saying the alternator is about to take a dump (I checked the belt tension and my grounds).

What company makes the best high output alternator? I think if I throw money at the problem it will go away.

I hope some audiophiles speak-up please and thank you.

My DC Power Engineering 180A alternator is going on year 12 for me. I have 2 car audio amps in my truck and it provides all the current they ever need. My electrical systems also loves the higher voltage (14.8V) and current on tap.

    Thank you for the response.

These folks were the first to pop-up when I was Googling, so with your personal experience I'm kinda sold on them. $650 for one... ah... errr... grrr... I guess you gotta pay to play.

The Cadillac one has worked fine for me. 130A IIRC, no extra whine or anything, but I had a 5F cap too.

edit: 140A actually. ACDELCO 3351047 Gold on Rockauto: $109

The Suzuki Vitara upgrade is plug and play. No adapters needed and they're ~$120 for a Denso on Rockauto. 105amp vs our 80amp. Together with the Big 3 mod and you'll be in business.

Edit: you do have to drill the tensioner bolt hole to make it a bit bigger but that's about it.

If you are using an AGM battery, make sure the charge voltage is 14.2V or higher for battery longevity. If you are using a lead-acid battery, 13.8V is likely sufficient.

    4 run, 2 don't
Most experience 14.4 (with a low of 14.3) for those running the Grand Vitara alternator.

Is there really a direct connection between the haltech two-step and a large amp draw? Doesn't seem like there would be.

I appreciate all the suggestions guys, thank you.

You want me to spitball this for you? Fine... I will open my mind to you.

Two-step floods motor, pulls timing.. it's doing some serious controls... stuff there. Then you want to ignite a metric ton of fuel as the entire exhaust system shakes, slaps, and explodes. Maybe it takes more current to push the electrons to the plugs cause despite the electrical connections being snug-enough the overall resistance of the circuit has increased? Now my 165k mile alternator doesn't seem to quite have the steam? Ahh... uhhh... errr... maybe?

I don't know man. Any excuse to throw money at the truck is a good one.

Well, for all the mental effort I tried to give this one and blame the alternator...

My turbo oil feed line somehow came in contact with the wiring loom off the alternator and pushed the wiring into the drivers side exhaust. It melted the loom and I need to open it to completely asses the damage to the wiring. The battery light will go off if I twist the loom around, so hopefully it's a quick wiring fix.

    This truck always humbles me.
