Saw what is allowed in other parts of the world. Did some reading and figured why not. Theres no way Toyota makes a different engine for the United States and a different one for say Australia , Mexico etc. Its clearly for CAFE numbers and kickbacks to Toyota.

Does your paperwork reflect “overheating” or something of the sorts? You might want to make sure you have it documented and dealer cannot properly fix, should you have an engine failure.

Was telling my bud earlier today that with my 2008 Corolla that I had, it was spec'd for 5w-30. Then I get a letter from Toyota that I can use 5w-20, If I like. Whats up with that?

Wait a min...thats a Spanish manual. What is 5W-30 in ENGLISH? ENGLISH!! We are way too smart to be doing any of those translation things (or is it trans-shiting?) ??? IDK.....carry on.

This is interesting and I wonder why the information is not the same in the US manual. The two that are most interesting are the 10w-30 and 15w-40 that are OK to use in a temperature range that gets as cold as 0 and 10 degrees F.

0w-20 has better fuel economy numbers, so to meet EPA regulations it must be used. No such regulation in Mexico so thicker oil goes. Also a specific weight of oil may be harder to come by in Mexico so more options is better.

Forget about all those oils with numbers, I use vegetable oil. You can never mix that up.
