This exactly. You can find 5W-30 in just about every remote, backwoods auto shop around the world. The 2GR is a globally produced motor and I guarantee it'll be just fine running on 5W-30, hell it'd probably be fine running a single 30W oil lol. My guess is 0W-20 is likely more expensive or just not available in the poorer parts of the world due to it being full syn.

It'd be interesting to see what the actual, exact fuel efficiency delta is between 0W-20 & 5W-30 due to the differences in their viscosities at operating temp. I'd be willing to bet its not much, like 5% tops.

Some of the first few things I did when I got my truck was change both diffs to 85w-140 conventional and 10w-30 synthetic blend in the motor. Can’t say I’ve noticed any mpg change at all. Granted I got the truck in May so the cold hasn’t shown yet, but still. All of those are thicker when hot than the stock stuff and still no mpg drop.

Yup, I get the same mileage in my 2014 as I used to get in my 2019. I've been entertaining the idea of running a 10W-30 in the summertime & 5W-30 in winter to help w/ easy startups. In the end I don't think it matters much at all.
