Hey Y’all! I’m 17 and I am looking to start really going heavy on mods and do a long travel kit. My problem is that the previous owner cut out the rear of the two front crossmembers to install a 6” Procomp Lift. How would you recommend I Fix the cut? I was thinking the most solid solution would be to cut out the same section from a junkyard and re-weld it back in.

Probably just as easy and stronger to build that section in with equivalent sized rectangle tube.

Why not just go with what you have and build from there. If not sell it and find something that will work for what you're trying to accomplish. I have always been of the opinion that once it's cut that's it, no going back.

    Welcome to TW
Yes any 6" kit requires cutting the front rear x-member for front driveshaft clearance. The procomp, bds/sone, and Rough country require the cut like your truck (and mine). The fabtech kit in the second post requires the larger cut due to the nature of the bracket as the Fabtech bracket sits higher up for clearance.

I had 2 friends running drop bracket kits on trucks the bought used and had added long travel kits to the drop bracket lifts. Neither have had issues as the drop brackets are much burlier than the stock tubing especially on that member. Both are extensive unique builds!

If you were to go back to stock or LT without using the drop bracket, you will also need to purchase standard spindles or whichever normal travel spindle you are going to run. There is a member on here that sells gusseted stock spindles which would be a great option. There have been a few member that have tacked in some rectangular stock and then welded sanded and painted.

My opinion, your best option is either to run the 6" lift and add LT to make a monster truck... or sell your truck and start with a Non-drop bracket truck. LT is a serious commitment from both a financial and fabrication perspective. My 2 cents it would make the most sense to find a truck with the best frame you can find before going such route and make sure it is really something you want to do.

Now if you're talking going to a more conservative mid travel setup that would make more sense going back to stock. Just note with these trucks the midtravel 2.5-3" kits you will want to also do an ECGS bushing to eliminate the needle bearing which is a problem on these trucks when your CV angles get too aggressive. The nice thing with the 6" kits are that it keeps the angle of the CV axles at near stock.

Best of luck and if you need further info feel free to DM me

Do you have a link to any of the drop bracket + long travel builds?

I actually do not know if either truck is on here. Both are guys I connected with initially on IG. I will try to get more info I just messaged both to see if they have a build hiding on here. Tylers truck I think was on here when he started it but I am not sure. He is on TC LT kit with a ProComp 6"

Damn, that’s for “all the lift”. Any idea what size tires those are?

He’s on 37 x 13.5” I believe currently! The truck is an absolute unit saw it in Florida! He told me he doesn’t have a build thread on here. Top notch stuff and he’s at like 200,000 miles now

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Does where you live have any restrictions on what will fail inspection ??

Some places are getting real strict .

If not I would just build my own Cross Member
