6/2X(1+2)=9 that is 2 seperate equations

    6/2(1+2)=6 which is 6 divided by 2(1+2) which = 1

    Edit: opps haha

    correct

so the answer to the one in the OP is 9 because he did not put parentheses around the 2(1+2).

    Yeah. Post 229. :)

Problem is people look at the equation linearly...

    6/2(1+2)

The problem is how it's laid out on a single line of the screen

    On paper, it's...

    6 * (1+2) = 6 * 3 = 18 = 9
    2-----1-----2---1---2

Parentheses then multiplication, and finally division of the fraction.

this isnt right, for the (1+2) to be on top of a 1 the equation need to be what i said before 6/2X(1+2) or it needs to be (1+2)6/2 then you get:
    6 * (1+2) = 6 * 3 = 18 = 9
    2-----1-----2---1---2

    but when its 6/2(1+2) thats:

    6
    2(1+2)

    I can confirm

    as the orig problem.

in math, first thing you have to do is clear the parenthesis.

6÷2(1+2) add to simply within ()
6÷2(3) <- note there is still a parenthesis, you have to distribute the 2, this is the ONLY WAY to clear the parenthesis.
    6÷6

    Yes, so....:

    6÷2(2+1) = 1
    6/2(2+1) = 9
