Hey guys, been lurking for a while. I've been negotiating price and terms with a dealership for about 2 weeks. Was told last night that they will accept my proposal which is to sell me the truck at $500 over invoice price, plus give me the full payoff amount on a trade in ( more than its probably worth). The only hitch is they said they won't get the truck until September or October.

What I'm getting is a TRD OR DC SB AT with Jbl tech, towing, and a bunch of other accessories.

That seems like a much longer wait time based on what I've been reading and what other dealerships have told me. I really think they don't wanna make a deal based on the little profit they'll make plus the potential to lose money on my trade in, and they are trying to talk me out of it by exaggerating the wait for the Tacoma. Am I crazy or does this seem legit. Could it possibly take that long? Should I roll the dice, call their bluff and order the truck? I told the sales manager I will be calling Toyota to verify everything he told me about the wait being 7+ months. Also I am in the NYC area and this was one of the bigger dealerships I visited.

    Thanks for any insight.

Whatever I can get away with
That seems incredibly long?! I was told I could place an order on a 2017 TRD Pro and have it early in the fall?! They also said I could have the EXACT same model as yours within a month?! Lastly, if they're a large dealership, they can allocate (trade) with another dealership. I think they're giving you a line a BS.

Do a search on cars.Com or even on the toyota Web site. The thing with the Toyota website is, you will have to play with different zipcodes, so just put in some zips that are near you. The dealer can get a truck transferred to them. The TRD OR with At shouldn't be a problem, the JBL narrows the playing field down, and what other accessories are you getting? If you are picky about the other options, then yes, it could be a long wait. If you are willing to go without some extras, such as led bed light, tonneau cover, whatever else you chose, then you could shorten your wait time.

Find another dealer. This one is suffering cranial-anal inversion. There are a lot of those trucks.

Thanks! The GSM said they have a hard time swapping with other delay because they never have Tacomas to trade. They currently have one AC Sport.

My plan is to take their offer to the competition and see if they'll match it.

Yup, I think if I get someone from Toyota involved it's might put some pressure on them to tell the tell the truth, in case no other dealerships will make the same deal.

How are they going to tell you what they'll give you for your trade 8 months from now? They are just giving you a ridiculous price just to take you off the market. Don't be surprised if you are laughed out of other dealerships.

Yup, the problem is they agreed to payoff my trade in as a last effort as I was walking out of the place my first visit. Since then I kept that offer as we negotiated the price. So last night they said they will honor their deal BUT they can't guarantee the truck until September/October. (Probably expecting I would not wanna wait that long, who would?) Which is total BS. I just spoke to Toyota USA and they said that's completely unrealistic. 3 months is usually the longest it would take even with some unexpected delays (8-12 weeks just like everyone says). They are gonna email me the details of how the process work. I'm gonna forward to the GSM and see what his respouse is.

I've been waiting 2 months already for a white limited , if you're waiting that long you might as well get the 2017

And Toyota probably has cash back to dealers at that time to move those 16's.

Has not been dealer cash, cash back, or any incentives at all on the Tacoma since March of 2013.

I received a rebate for mine $500 for military --I'm no longer active but I had my reservist ID handy and they used that.

My bad, other than college grad or military incentives which are valid if you finance any Toyota/Scion through TFS

Yep finance through dealer and then refinance with another lender to get better interest rate...
