Plenty of room for 1 or 2!! Here’s my 25” wide bed and 42” wide bed.
It’s awesome. Quieter in the wind, minimize noise from other campsites. Love sleeping in the bed.

Actually, the 1st gen has the widest box out of all 3 gens.

That's pretty wild considering how narrow (perfect) that 1st Gens appear. I guess the thin double metal walls give a lot more space. There is certainly a ton of room between the composite bed and the fenders.

It is also odd that the 2nd Gen widths are different than the 3rd Gens. I thought the beds were generally the same?

I'm fixing my house and had no issues to haul 10 feet long beam and standard sheets of subfloor in SB.

I think that chart is off. I know the 3rd gen bedsides are taller by 1", but I'm pretty sure the interior dimensions are the same.

I know there was some discussion about the height of the 2nd Gen rail caps and the fit over the roof antennas with wedge campers like the GFC.

    Fun stuff though.

    Like, so many.
I disagree with that. I carry all manner of stuff in my truck that I wouldn't be crazy about throwing in the back of an SUV.

Sure you can still use it as a bed I'm just saying- if I'm going to waste cargo space on an open bed it just make sense to me to get the extra foot

I don't think I would have been able to carry a refrigerator, a kid's playground set, a solid work table, or almost a yard of dirt in a 4runner. I'm just glad they really think a 1' longer bed magically transforms a tacoma into a "real truck"

Stupid and funny fact. After my wife bought me a kegerator kit, I hauled a full sized fridge in the back our the volvo wagon that we had at the time, with the hatch closed. The volvo is gone, but I'm still using that fridge.:rofl:

Aren't you not supposed to haul fridges laying flat though? Guess it didn't matter in your case since it still works lol.

You just need to let them rest for an hour or so before plugging it in.

The only fridge that we have a had compressor / evaporator problems with has never been on its side.:rofl:

If you want the 6' bed get the Access Cab. If you want the DC get the 5' bed. It's about wheelbase and those are the same. The DCLB is virtually the same overall length and wheelbase as a 1/2 ton truck with an extended cab and a 6 3/4' bed. For the same overall length you'll get a longer, wider, deeper bed, about 800-1000 lbs more payload, and as much as double the tow capacity. For about the same cost, same fuel mileage and with a larger more comfortable cab.

The only real advantage to owning a Tacoma is to drive a smaller, more maneuverable truck. You lose that with a DCLB.

With my tailgate down I don't have any issues hauling 12' lumber or kayaks. The 6' bed isn't enough longer to improve on that. Neither is the 6 3/4' bed of a 1/2 ton. If you want to haul more than you can fit in a 5' bed you need an 8' bed. Or buy a trailer. You're not going to put much in a Tacoma regardless of bed length.

I personally don't offroad or anything, I just use my truck as a daily. I have the double cab long bed, and have found it more than useful when hauling items. Every time I load up, that extra space comes in very handy. I don't find the truck too long to maneuver, but I imagine that would be a very different story when off road.

I find myself running over curbs more often with my double cab long bed than I did with my shorter trucks. Parking garages can be tight. It is full size long. It is best for my long term and current needs.

Tacoma DCLB is 75.2 wide and 225.5 long

Tundra Double Cab is 79.9 wide and 228.9 long

It is more like an extended Cab as the true double cab is the Crew Max and only comes with a 5.5' bed so that negates the 6' bed requirement.

Notwithstanding, the interior is larger in the Tundra Double Cab in almost every dimension than Tacoma Double Cab.
Same headroom front, 0.6" more rear.
4" more hip room front and rear.
0.4" less leg room front, 2.1" more rear.
7.4" more shoulder room front, 6.6" more rear.

All that with a 6.5' bed instead of 6' and only 4.7" wider and 3.4" longer, and 1" more ground clearance.

Even with all that in mind I still chose a DCLB Tacoma for the approach and departure angles.

I can understand that sentiment, but the choice is not just about off roading. The extra length also makes it harder to maneuver and park in an urban environment. I debated back and forth and decided I was more likely to haul people than large cargo, but I still liked the idea of a separate cargo space that I could put nasty stuff and tall stuff. For example, a dirt bike fits in the 5’ bed with the tailgate down, but it probably would not fit in a 4Runner.

My DCSB Tacoma is the largest vehicle I have ever owned and I definitely notice that when doing very basic driving around town. I pass up 25% of parking spots and back into 25% of others. After lifting it a total of 3” I now have run into a few cases where I don’t fit under things. Lol
