Anyone hear anything substantial about 6 cyl turbo diesel making it into 2020 Tacoma and/or 4Runner refresh? Thought I heard something awhile back about Tundra and there is all kinds of speculation about a 300 series Land Cruiser supposedly coming for 2020. Just wondering if anyone in Tacomaworld has anything credible regarding Tacoma mid-life refresh.

Nope. Toyota will go turbo hybrid before a diesel

    I can't see a Tacoma ever getting a diesel

Never likely to happen. Toyota is going all electric/hybrid soon, and there is almost no demand for diesel in the US.

Nope it’s true. I know a guy, well my uncle has a friend that he overheard the autozone guy and the Pepsi guy talking. They said it should be here in 2020. They have some scattered around now just getting the bugs worked out before it hits the street :anonymous::crapstorm::rofl:

Here is a quote from another forum (from an unnamed source, of course), so who the heck knows. Sounds a bit like hype, but there is more demand for Ford 150 turbo diesel, Dodge Eco diesel and Jeep Wrangler now has a diesel option as well.

"It will debut in 2020, turbo diesel six cylinder is coming finally, Hybrid option on the way, best in class fuel economy, all new platform will be used for a multitude of vehicles."

RE: The 6 cyl diesel Turbo in The 2020 Tundra, when asked about if it goes in LC, he clarified:

"I haven’t heard anything regarding the LC and that motor for the US market. But I have confirmation that the motor will see it’s way into the the hoods of the midlife cycle Tacoma and all new 4Runner for the US."

I test drove the dodge eco diesel and was not impressed at all. Felt underpowered bad.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
IMO ... Small vehicle diesels in the US are on the way out FAST now ... especially after the VW mess and now other mfg's are being investigated for fudging the EPA numbers

I live part-time in Thailand and they have diesels everywhere .... always wanted a Toyota diesel UNTIL I drove one in Thailand .... not for me in a small truck. The Toyota dealer in Chaing Rai had about 25 vehicles on the showroom floor and about 1/2 of them were small Toyota (mostly diesel) trucks .. ie HiLux ...

Drove the new Nissan and Ford Ranger in Thailand too ... didn't like the Nissan but the Ranger was pretty cool but it seemed really big ... maybe it was the narrow streets there ?? lol

FWIW, bought a Honda Jazz (same as Honda Fit in US) last trip in Thailand and on the Honda showroom floor, I saw a LOADED Honda CRV twin turbo-diesel at almost $50,000 USD .

That CRV really looked cool too and seemed wider too with the bigger tires and rim.

Please do me a favor and look at the actual production numbers :thumbsup: but hey, I hope they get here so I can buy a vehicle that takes 17 seconds to go 0-60 and I love driving up a hill in 3rd gear at 50 mph. Cannot wait.

Even if they did I'd want no part of a diesel Tacoma.
    Give me a supercharged V6!

And the price will be $5,000 plus more for the Diesel version,so the Tacoma would be in the $50,000 range,no thank you.

It will be the best Tacoma yet. Low end torque will be unchained if they do it right.

Electric motors produce maximum torque at minimum speed, which is why they are used in diesel locomotives, which are “hybrids” if you think about it.

Full electric Tacoma will be the most capable version if they ever make it.
