    I Need help!!
I have a 96 tacoma. had the 6" trailmaster lift put on 12 years ago. Have gone through 3 broken struts now. Went to get my 3rd one replaced, come to find out that they have discontued this lift and I cannot find a new strut for it. I believe it is the strut, its the one on the outside, closest to the tire. Does anyone know where i might find one, if not, what are my options? are there any aftermarket struts that may fit?

Yes I can help. I'll try to redirect you to two threads one of which I wrote the info you are seeking yesterday.

You are seeking a pair of 89-91 VW golf cartridge struts. Gotta be replacment cartridge style ~ not non replacment. Non replacment with the sheet metal body and lower flange for spindle bolt are the more common.

These struts will then need to be machined to fit the upper strut bearing. At this point the strut will be abou 3/4" shorter then the TM 6" strut. Theirfore I lowered my strut bearing plate with spacers about 3/4".

Soo this is an old but still pretty decent Trailmaster 4" lift kit. It's on my 1998 Toyota Tacoma ext Cab 5speed manual with the 3.4L V6 4x4. I've replaced the ball joint on the driver side and the cv axle (due to the shitty ball joint). She's up and running now. Need to mess with the rack and pinion possibly the intermediate shaft. But FIRST! I need to address this dumbass "Secondary strut/upper control arm delete" and get this bullshit replaced. Unfortunately with my luck they don't manufacture or sell them anymore because they are faulty. I'm going to fix it now and play with it. But when it fails I'm swapping it. It's currently IFS but she will be SAS after my pockets get a little fuller.. anyway. I'd like to go the cheaper route of solving replacing my upper strut assembly considering I've invested quite the chunk of change so far. Shoot me a message if you know what's up! Save me! Get the yota goin'! Thanks for reading my novel. Also I just bought the 1985-1993 VW golf KYB strut inserts just need to get them machined tonight then install them would like it if you guys gave me pointers?? Ebay ~ $3.99 ea. or not. I don't believe VW's use them.

What did you end up doing with this? I am in the same boat and am really hoping not to have to replace the whole kit. The strut on mine is blown.

Hey. people said it is possible to put in the vw strut. I ordered one and had a guy try to put it in but he said it didn't fit. I ended up getting a new kit for my truck. I put a lot of time into finding a cheaper solution but had no luck

The ride isn't great on rough roads but I couldn't find anyone to revert it back to stock and then put something else in.

What part of the strut needs to be machined ? What strut mount is it ? The vw golf 91 strut mounts look like only 2 bolt when it is a 3 bolt . .. So to install you take off the 3 or 4 top bolts from the secondary strut and insert the vw cartridge ? And then you attach the mount underneath instead of on top ? I really do appreciate the help!

Same problem and not sure where to go?
Replace both struts and keep replacing or convert looks like a nightmare.
Got the VW strut info but can i put a 5100 Bilstein in on a 6" lift?
Some one said to put a 1st gen tundra strut in?

    Please Help!

    Mr Clark.

I went with the new Fabtech lift kit. Not Cheap but nobody was willing to return it to stock and then do something else. I did try the VW shock but it was a no go. I don't know if you can put a 5100 bilstein on it. Sorry dude, i feel your pain.
