first post to tw, soon to have a 2013 regular cab, and planning to add a 6" lift with 35s and 5.29s. will be doing some mudding but mostly for looks. will i break alot if i give the four banger a little hell with 6 inches and 35s under it? also will be towing jon boats, 1 to 2 four wheelers, etc. will the 5.29s allow me to pull those kinds of things? any opinions or advice is appreciated.

Welcome! and do they even make a 6” lift for the 4 bangers? I thought they only made a 6” for the bigger 6lug/v6?? :confused.

and if they do and i don’t know about it, yeah you will se a power loss with the 4 banger. heck most guys with the v6 and 6” lift and 35”s can tell a little power loss.

    welcome to TW!

I don't think you'll be breaking a lot of parts, but 35" meats will definitely be work for the 2.7. Especially if you plan to be mudding it, you may be wishing you had more power to keep those tires turning in thick mud. Then towing on top of that...

    it should look sick though!

You can get a 6 lug with the 4-banger. They come stock with 4.10 gears as well.

yes, they do make 6'ers for the little guys, ive heard that with 5.29s and 35s you will be pretty close to getting back to stock power.

You won't break anything, just ruin all your idler pulley bearings in the mud.

5.29's will make it derivable, but it won't be a race car that's for sure.

True, but it's still the stock power of a 2.7L. Hauling around a john boat or a couple atv's every now and then probably won't be horrible, but you will definitely feel it.

oh ok i did not know the 4 bang came in 6 lug. does the OP have 6 lug or 5 lug then?
also you will be caring around the extra weight of the tires.

Those tires and lift are gonna to be really hard on that truck. maybe i missed this but is it going to be manual or auto? also with a trailer it is going to be hard on the truck you wont have much power. My experience with trucks like you are talking about is they are fine on FLAT highway and incline or letting off the gas will immidiatly slow the truck.

it will be manual, i know something like 4" lift and 33s would be more realistic but the 6 would just look sick. plus i have easy access to a 3500 anytime the 2.7 gets scared:ballchain:

4.88 and it is a first gen 2.7l but same engine. i think even with 5.29 it still wouldnt be able to pull 75 on the freeway unless tacked out in 3rd lol

what do you mean good reviews? i love my 31s on my tacoma and have 33s for off roading and i am running 4.10. with the 33s i can light my tires up at a stop light.

I travel 200 miles each way to work every week and when i had 33s with 4.10 i couldnt make it up the summit to my house unless i was in third gear (donner summit which is going from sea level to over 7,000 feet) and it is even hard with the 31s but i am able to do it in 4th gear and still haul at around 85
