The more fucked up part is the driver always walks away.

I don't understand why people fell the need to go out and drink then drive. Some one was killed in a bar fight last month in my town. Stay at home and drink, sorry for the family, I had an uncle get killed from a drunk driver.

Need to make the consequences harsher for this in my opinion. As a volunteer firefighter I have seen a few drunk driving wrecks and it always pisses me off.

Drinking a few drinks is okay but once you start feeling a little bit off stop drinking, get a ride home from a sober friend or call a cab. Never ever drink and drive!! Its just stupid and I hope the driver gets a long prison stay.

If they get out of prison, fucked up thing is they'll be driving again in no time...its pathetic...person I know got 3 DUI's before they were 21, and was driving again by 22...Had the "blow test" for the ignition, but now he just drives his gf's car and they go get drunk and drive that....

He should have license taken away and so should his gf. Maybe also sterilization so they won't threaten the gene pool.

Traffic laws, like most others, are money makers not life savers and are mostly enforced upon the ignorant and/or poor. If you have knowledge of the law, exercise your rights, and/or can get a good attorney you'll walk on most charges or avoid being charged in the first place. What you do or don't say during a traffic stop can make a HUGE difference on being charged. I've already won one cell phone ticket and avoided another. Rather than actually enforce laws already on the books they add new laws that mostly serve to make more things illegal which rarely solves shit. Our BAC limit used to be .1%, then they lowered it to .08%. All that does is make it so that more people get busted whether or not they were impaired, the number of DUIs has remained higher than they were when it was a .1% limit. I break a crapload of traffic laws every day; cell phone, speed, alchohol, etc., and will continue with my squeaky clean record. What I won't do is allow my driving to be a hazard or nuisance to other people. If I didn't drive so many other people's stuff I wouldn't bother to have a license and just be done with all the bullshit laws.

Hate to see that. Such an avoidable tragedy. Sadly it will continue.

Hopefully living with what they did will be a harsh punishment, though still not near enough. Such a shame so many lives lost over such ignorance. I definitely agree about the stricter punishments. A local news broadcaster here ran over someone one night, killing them, while he was severely intoxicated. He was in prison for just a few months until they started requiring him to just stay the nights in prison and letting him out during the day...

I'm wondering about these statements you made in bold. And how they seem to conflict, could you explain yourself?

A drunk driver ran into my aunt and her three sons. Sent her into a coma for almost 8 months, killed one of her sons, and the other two were hospitalized. No jail time AND was driving on a suspended license. Had 4 DWI's. Like seriously...

At some point DUI that ends in death needs to be a murder charge.

Definitely. I've seen and heard of TOO many DUI's and more than 1 ending up dead...and the driver gets a minimum of 2 years or doesn't even see jail time.
