I know that LT is more for desert running, but how much lift are you looking at getting from a LT setup? To me they both seem to be for different things, the 6" is only really for looks, where as the LT is more for function.

Finally a voice of reason:) For practicality-sake, it's not worth it. If looks only, then sure. I think a well built 2.5" lift looks great, and is practical (assuming you do that right as well).

    Agreed ^^^^^^^^

I would have to agree with these guys and I voted 3. It all depends on what you want to do with it. 6 looks sick, but I have seen a truck with the pro comp lift wheeling and that truck was all over the place and no benefit over the guys with 3 inch lifts. LT is just another level...Not sure what you are spending on a 6 inch lift but if I had 6k to spend on my truck LT would be my weapon of choice.

what a dilemma. I'd choose LT if I could afford it. If not, 6".

    Big difference to what? COG?

I've often wondered why people go 6" for a DD/offroad truck. You raise your COG up, your clearance doesn't improve unless you up the tire size, and then most you're talking major power loss (how many people with 6" are running 4.56s or 4.88s?). Sure, it's easier to run 34s and 35s with the added lift as opposed to making clearance with a 2.5-3", but unless you're regearing, what little low range you did have, is gone. Now if it's a DD that doesn't see dirt/offroad much, it probably doesn't matter as much.

I agree, a 6" lift is very cool looking, but I suppose after putting a 3" BL on my last Tacoma, I swore to do EVERYTHING right the first time around with this truck, and make sure everything was practical.

However, it is your money, and you need to do what makes you happy, so if it's what you want, go for it.

I have been going thru this debate myself. I am going to go with a six inch lift, probably FabTech. However i want to throw the rear "kit" out and go with a new spring, shackle, and flip kit. Now it is interesting that previous a poster talk about regearing. Regardless of what lift you go with if you are going with 33' or larger tires you should regear period. I am saving the 8k+ necessary to do my build the way I want to. Isn't that what we should all do? I couldn't care less what some desert dude (that spends most of his time sitting in traffic) does or wants. And I'm sure he doesn't care what my redneck, duck huntin', catfishin, 24' Jonboat haulin azz does either....... Oh and personally I don't think a 3" kit does much for my DC/LB..... but that's just me..... Which is my point, do your build your way!! Your payin and usin it YOUR way!!!!! :):):)

I'm not a desert dude, PA is far from it;), and no, 33s are manageable with stock gears for DD use. 35s are not. However, I agree, if you will be doing some serious crawling, even 33s can benefit from a regear.

Btw, I hunt, too, just not a redneck;):p, but true about doing what you want to do. It is YOUR truck after all. Most of us have our own opinions for various reasons, and in reality, none should matter other than your own.

IMO I would just do the 2" wider per side long travel kit from All-Pro but that might cost a bit more all said and done than a 6" lift kit. 6" Lifted Tacoma's do look "Sweet" though. I imagine you could always weld up the drop bracket's up front to make the overall setup stronger??
