I'm looking at buying a 6" lift, i already have the tires and rims picked out but im nervous that i might break something. ive heard from a lot of people that the tacomas are very strong. has anyone had to re gear the rear axle or had any issues with the transmission long term? im not worried about the gas mileage but im worried about what other upgrades ill have to do with the lift and tires.

You will need to do gears for 35s. I went with 4.56....

do you get a lot of power with the re gear? Yes it is an auto. I have the 4.0. right now i live in Louisiana for work but im from colorado so im hoping to make a trip up there with the truck in about a year or two, so i dont want to drop my gears between then and now. ill be making more suspension upgrades before i go back home though

Engage Long Travel 6 over with race spindles. 2.5x8 sway a ways wrapped in King Coils.
I guess another question would be are you getting a pro comp or Fabtech lift or are you gonna suspension lift?

I have a V6 4.0 Auto too. I put 33's on my truck. I felt the power loss immediately.

Went to 4.56 gears with the 33's. Made a big difference.

So, yes you'll definitely need a re gear if you want to run 35's. Otherwise you'll be woefully under powered, under torqued, and you'll make your transmission work it's butt off.

Bear in mind re gearing doesn't gain power - it keeps you from losing it. And the Tacoma doesn't have power to lose.

I'm in the 2.5" range (originally was 3" but added bumpers, winch, skids). But I have a suspension lift (no spacers, no fabtech, etc). All Old Man Emu stuff. Even with 33" some trimming was needed in the wheel wells up front. If you plan for 35's, even with a big lift, you'll need to be prepared for the tires to rub on your fenders, Upper Control Arms, Cab Mount, etc.

I actually really want to do 35's on my truck. But I've held off because I know it's going to require modifications and money to do it right so I can still off-road without grinding the crap out of the tires.

Usually 2.5-3" with trimming and a cab mount chop if you plan on wheeling and flexin the suspension.

i might run 33's so i can still have some clearance, i dont want to do any body lift i made that mistake with my jeep. I will probably go with a 33x12.5

Im at 2.5 inches of lift with long travel clearing 35s with a cab mount chop, pinch weld fold, removed wheel liners, cut the fenders, and am running the correct back spaced rims to just clear my spindles.

Go 285/75/16s or 285/70/17s, the 12.5s will rub the frame pretty bad. Also, make sure you have wheels with the correct back spacing to clear the UCAs

did you do all that yourself? i would be afraid to chop anything myself. i was planning on getting -12mm offest wheels to clear everything.

i was thinking of running -12mm offset, i need to find someone that has an offset rim because im not too sure how the measurements work with all that.

Everything except the cab mount chop cuz you need someone to weld a new plate on.

I want my rig to look like yours! lol Your truck is freaking awesome.

What's the BS on your rims? I think my Method NV (16's) are 4.5?

EDIT: Shoot I see you have wheel spacers too...

    17 X 8.5 rim 6 X 139.7 lug 4.30" -10mm

Clears the spindle by about half an inch with 35s

Stock spindles? I didn't see aftermarket ones listed on your build page.

I wonder if the 4.5 BS on my Methods would suffice or if I'd have to get new rims too. I looked up the price on 35" Cooper ST Maxx earlier today at TreadDepot. $238 each (I'd need 5 obviously). Running 16" rims so I'd be 315/75/16 I think (34.5" technically).

Yep but if you run a drop bracket lift they usually use aftermarket spindles.

Yeah I knew that. I don't plan to do a drop bracket lift though. LOL I want real suspension.

Some day perhaps do something beefier than my OME. Fox or something like that. When I got my 33's I thought they were great. Until I saw Tacos with 35's and I felt pewny.
