Perhaps certain parts are manufactured there? Assembly lines rotate too, so if it’s a major part that’s not currently scheduled to be produced maybe that’s why it’s coming from Japan and taking a while. I honestly don’t know enough about it.

This is what the adjuster has told me… I’m not sure what he or the shop would gain from sitting on my truck for months.

Do you really Need a truck tight now ? As i see it, its to your advantage. They provide you with a free loaner your daily driving and your tacomas mileage will still be the same.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Tacomas may be assembled in Mexico or Texas, but the supply chain extends globally.

Looks to be a pretty big piece encompassing the A-pillar, door hinge frame, and portion of the doorsill. By the time you drill out all the spot welds from a salvage yard truck, the part will probably be like swiss cheese: https://toyotaparts.mcgeorgetoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-hinge-pillar-6113104061

And sure enough "Country of origin JAPAN"

Can't see how this part could be irreparably damaged from the collision though. Dented door sill should just be pulled out on a rack and smoothed out with bondo. Replacing that whole pillar is very invasive.

It's the type of steel. They are using more and more high strength steel in vehicles for crashworthyness. HSS cannot be bent back into shape, and must be replaced to retain the structural integrity. Mfg design in sectioning points where body shops can cut the old, and put in new.

Good explanation there on HSS. The difference is mostly down to carbon content - when you increase carbon content you increase strength, typically at the expense of malleability.

Interesting information! 980 MPa = 142 ksi, getting up there in steel heat treatment. SAE grade 8 bolts are 150 ksi for reference. I'd still do it if it were my truck (I have sliders), but yeah a shop going by the book would have to replace that section.

Thats a long wait. I guess with the supply issues we been having because the Koof19 this is something people have to live with.

I wonder if you could trade it in as is if you could get a new truck lined up? Would a dealership take it and sit on it till it was repaired and sell it. I know in my family a few years ago we had a vehicle the was in a minor accident while looking to trade it. The dealership took it in damaged in trade along with the check to fix it from insurance.

I don’t need it per se, but I’m definitely fighting the clock when it comes to return to office. (Taking advantage of remote work)

buddy had his 2nd gen waiting at the dealership for 10 months to get his replacement frame in.
Frame shipped all the way from Japan.
He had a brand new 3rd gen and a Prius as a loaner that whole time.

That’s exactly what the dealership (auto shop) is offering. Although I’ll take a hit on the value since i’m trading it in, and it sounds like all incoming Tacomas are being bought at MSRP or above. There was a another ACLB that was sold before it even got to the dealership last week…

That's a real bummer. Unfortunately if you can't take the value hit or find a replacement you are doing well with insurance paying for a truck for you to drive until it's repaired. That's a long time in a rental but not out of your pocket.

Oh there will be some mods all right
That...is devastating....I know vehicles are only objects that are replaceable, but to wait that long just to have it taken from your hands is terrible.

The stamping lines making this part are probably working overtime to feed Toyota's OEM production, so not much gets diverted to spares.

I get the whole supply chain but, I was under the impression that the steel was all stamped at the factory.

I can understand a wait to get one but the Tacoma Frames are made here, that makes no sense to say its coming from Japan as they don't sell Tacoma's overseas.

Exactly, the cost would be astronomical to make them elsewhere and ship them.
