Don’t read anything extra into one persons experience with another dealer 5 years ago. On an unrelated recall repair.

Just relating a personal experience with getting the runaround for months from a dealership waiting for a part.

Right it sounds like they were just giving him the runaround, if memory serves me the frames for our trucks come from the Dana Corp.

that was at a time when replacement frames were scarce because Toyota was replacing millions of them.

I’m thinking it was a scarcity issue.

Which dealer is wanting to buy your truck?

It’s Toyota AutoNation in South Austin. The body shop there is handling the truck repair. I’m sure they would prefer to buy it, if they are putting me into a new truck.

OP, Sorry that this has happened to you. Must be frustrating. But I must say you seem to be handling it pretty well. Or at least as well as one possibly can.

Setting aside the actual part, since I assume that the dealer doing the repair knows more than we do about it and also has no incentive to sit on the car that long, has the salesperson put together the numbers on the deal? I would be really curious to see what they are offering for your current truck, how much for the new truck and what the complete package looks like. You might be surprised -- then again, you might be horrified!

But you do have time to really look at the numbers (and talk to your insurance company) while waiting on that pesky part.

Good luck ... and definitely post back how it all works out.

It may not be sold there, but some components may be manufactured there.
It is - just not the same factory/assembly line in Mexico or Texas.
Just 'cuz Taco frames were made in Mexico by Dana doesn't mean that the same company/factory stamps out the body sheet metal components.
It is a global supply chain after all, and I would suspect that the bean counters have the costs refined down to the pennies.

Yes some electronic components shared amongst worldwide models makes sense but body panels on a model not even sold in that part of the world not at all. If the vehicle in question was a 4 Runner it would make sense as it's made in Japan and uses a worldwide vehicle chassis.

Yea, but do they actually have any new trucks you would want? Pretty slim pickens up here in DFW.

Depends on the availability of the new truck and the trade offer of your old truck.
Prices are high on both right now but trade differences might be appropriately in line.

I never said it made sense, and very often global companies do things that don't make sense to us average people.
