    Oh Yeah!!!
See now this is the issue, no where is this stated on their site. I have heard 16's dont fit, now you say 17's. Not doubting any of the statements out there,,,

But... Can someone who has the mechanical intel on this chime in and explain the dynamics. ie... BS, is this a 05-09 issue or just 09???????????

Im really curious as to how this all works.

Well, back in January I sent ProComp and email and asked them this question....

"I was wondering if your 6" Stage II kit (K5066BMX) for the '05-'08 Tacoma will work for the 2009. I had heard there were issues with the Vehicle Stability Control."

Keep in mind, at that time the least of my worries were what size wheels I could run. I too had seen many pics of Tacos with ProComp 6" lifts running 17's. I was more worried about the VSC and finding wheels with the correct backspace and offset.

    Anyway, here was their reply....

"For the 05-09 Tacoma with VSC, you will need kit # K5073BMX.
The K5066BMX kit will fit 05-08 Tacoma with non-VSC."

The few places on the net I was able to find this kit did NOT have ANY info on what wheel size you HAD to run. Usually they had the following note....

"Note: 6" of lift allows the use of 35" x 12.50" tires on 18" diameter rims up to 9" wide with up to 5.5" backspacing and 35" x 12.50" tires on 20" diameter rims up to 9" wide with up to 6" backspacing."

Well, I didn't want to run 35's OR 18's, so I didn't worry about it and ordered 17" wheels and tires.

On one of my many trips to the shop today, delivering my new wheels and tires, they showed me THE piece of paper pulled from one of the boxes that read...."18" wheels MUST be used with this kit"

So, I'm not sure if, in making changes to their 6" Stage II kit for the '09 VSC equipped trucks, they decided to make other changes in the spindles that causes this issue, but it is there

Oh, I was thinking about doing a 6" lift, but I am not giving up my 17's to buy a new lift. I'll stil with my leveling kit. Looks good though, I think it would look a lot better with a little more of an offset wheel.

    Longhorn, waz up...

So do you think the issue with 16's and the drop bracket lifts are the same as regular clearance issue our Taco's already experince w/the caliper and all. If thats the case, I've solved it with the BS of my DC-1's ...

But yeah Im hoping this could be a cut and dry yes or no scenerio..

Sorry, I can't really tell you. I would imagine it's the same thing, but I have no idea what they did with the kit. Maybe they added something that requires 18s. Especially if there is a note inside the kit that says it only works with 18s...

Very interested to see how this works out though - keep us updated!

Notice this guy has an '05. The problem that was experienced in my situation was with 17" wheels on an '09 with the 6" stage II lift.

I just sent an email to ProComp asking them what changes, if any, were made between the '08 and '09 Stage II kits. There has to be SOMETHING, or else I'd have 17" wheels on my truck right now and wouldn't have had to go through the fiasco I did last week.

Here is the reply I got from ProComp. The answer seems obvious, but since I don't have a VSC and non-VSC spindle side-by-side I don't know what it is about the VSC that required these changes.

"The steering knuckle is the major difference. We had to adjust the dimensions to work with the VSC. This is why you have to run 18" or larger with this kit. The non VSC kit will allow 17's and larger."

And there you have it folks. Just remember you heard it here first
