    Subtle hint there. :santa2:

Feel and vibes are my main ones also. Light intake mods and the pre-axle dump help with that.

I've been driving a stick for 20 yrs...I've always had a five speed. For some reason the 6th gear always gets me...I mainly just want to be fancy and have it displayed.

This is an interesting exercise and something I haven't thought to tinker with. I didn't know it identified what gear the manual transmission is in. I will mess with this next time I hook up techstream. I would think that this absolutely has to be a simple ratio calculation of engine revs vs tire revs so there'd be a threshold of speed above which it could accurately calculate. Does the engine map itself differently based on this information? Also I'd assume the engine ECU makes the calc? If so, wonder if it puts the gear information on the can bus for other ECU's?

Hell, I'd kind of like to know what gear the auto is in sometimes just for fun

That answer to all of those is unfortunately, Yes!

There are per gear maps for all gears plus neutral. With this assumed reactionary determination of gear and gear map, it would explain a lot of the Stock tune weirdness when shifting, esp on my original factory tune. @OVTune did kill all these gear maps for 2.0. We are thankfully using one map only and it can be felt!

I have a core short shifter and aside from taking all the slop out and gaining more trans noise in the cab (2nd gen RA60F is a seriously noisy trans) I honestly can't tell much of a difference in throw.

I can definitely tell what gear it's in just from a glance or by feel without issue.

I still catch myself on the highway sometimes doing the 6th -> 6th shift absent mindedly though.

Knowing what gear your in isn't as important as being able to read upcoming road conditions and engine feed back, are your RPMs high? Shift up. Are they low? Shift down.

    Not that difficult.

    See? :)

All I'm saying is that after clutching and shifting everything under the sun for more than a half a century if there was a gear display on the dash I would be looking at it!

    LOL

I had a 1984 VW Sirocco with a displayed gear indicator and an irritating upshift arrow. I think this was 4th or maybe the 5th thing to break.....I can't remember :D

Seriously, I never depended on the thing - every truck/car I have personally chosen has a MT (wife has chosen a few) - those MT vehicles had no dash indicator and really don't need it. BUT all that said, I think it would be pretty cool. I just like lots of stuff displayed. For sport.

I bought a new Sirocco in '79! I think they called it the "S" model. It had the air damn on the front and some fancy paint/stripping. Fun little car.
Ya, that arrow thing would have been irritating. I guess mine was too old to have that.

Ill give some leeway on this, if I get stuck at a red-light or something when I'm already going slow I sometimes forget that I left my truck in second gear. Then its either an awkward downshift into first or a chuggalugglugg until the rpms catch up.

I need to get a gear display on my bike. It would beat the hell out of trying to guess or downshifting to neutral and then back up lol

YES! I wish my R6 had a gear indicator. I always go for that imaginary 7th gear after I recently changed the sprockets.

Annnnnd, there we go! I can forgive not having an indicated gear, esp when we don't have to deal with that damn up shift arrow constant fucking flashing at anything over idle.

And the truth works it's way out.

Rig micro switches under the shift boot for each gear and wire them to a heads up display.

Maybe MESO can 3D print and sell such a package. :D

This looks like a reasonable question to me, wouldn't mind having something like it myself.

    Oh man! Don't go there!

My wife has already blocked the MESO website on our computer!
