Ive always heard people say let the clutch out because you are letting the pedal out.

i dont even go by gear. i go by where i am in the powerband. you can just tell when you need to downshift or upshift if you driven standard long enough.

I'd have said that surely everyone would agree that a small gear indicator would be a nice touch.
Obviously it is not 'necessary' but it sure would be convenient just like it was on my motorcycle.

Forget about wanting to know what gear you are in - how do you use the 3 pedals with only 2 feet?
    It must be magic.

If you never stop you only need one pedal and one foot.

I had a POS 4cyl Dodge Dakota like that when I was 18, manual trans with no tach. It had a red light on the dash though that would light up when it thought you should shift lol.

I’ve wanted this in my fiesta ST 6-speed manual. When you commute a lot and the gear shifts are “short throw”, it’s nice to have for instant visual reference. when coming into turns with throttle off it can be instant reminder to not fumble around with the shifter or have to feel its location in order to know if u are in neutral or still in like 6th gear or so. Similarly off roading , if you are blasting hard and all you can hear is squeaky sounds from the suspension , pebbles hitting the bottom of ur truck it would be hard to tell by “sound” or feel when you are ripping.
Like people said it’s the same logic as why get a back up cam when u can just look behind , or why have a lane indicator in the side view mirror when you can just “check ur blind spot”
Also why have an electric starter when u can just get out and crank the motor by hand like your lawn mower.

good post OP. Although I would never opt for a shitty manual if given a choice (B/C faster is better), don’t let the haters bring you down. Good idea

I wouldn’t put electric start in the same category as lane assist. But if hand crank was an option, I might consider it. One less electromagnetic part to fail.

I'm assuming in that 40 years you never had to redline 2ed gear for a min or so just to make it up comp hill:

I think I'm beginning to see why people think the indicator light idea is a "dumb" idea. They probably treat their vehicles with respect and love.

I've often thought it would make more sense than a tachometer.

That requires doing math that this high tech truck could do for me.

So on the 6 speed tacos, is there any kind of extra feature for getting in to reverse? On my Nissan you push down on the shifter, on the Volvo there was a ring you pulled up. I don't think my taco has anything like that that I can recall...

I've lost count of the times I have tried to shift into 7th on my kdx200 (6 speed). Would a display help me remember? Probably help me hit a tree yes. :)

That sounds like a bulb that would get pulled out in a hurry lol.

I'm very much in the less extra stuff camp. Less stuff on the dash is less distraction. All these screens everywhere with extraneous information is not a trend I appreciate.

But, I can see how some people would go for that, even if they're wrong.
