No one has mentioned the ambiguity of being in gear or neutral. It is a very important distinction when letting clutch out at a stop. Long ago I developed the habit of swinging the stick back and forth to insure it was in neutral. it wouldn't hurt if the truck had a display to look at as well.

Super ditto on a motorcycle where determining if you are in neutral often requires letting the clutch out slowly to see if the bike moves forward.

The taco is the first 6 speed I have owned and I find feeling the difference between gears, especially 1st and reverse, to be more difficult than any other manuals I've owned (6+). Maybe I'm just getting old and losing my sense of proprioception.

No. Just a pleasant extra heavy spring. Works perfectly.

I must be old. I've had it in reverse by accident countless times; all embarrassing. :)

Overtime you learn what gear you're in based off speed and rpm. A had a loud-ish exhaust which didn't even require me to look down at the tach, I just knew based off sound.

The car I learned stick on had short ass gears. Doing 75 I was at like 4k. Crazy. Would make anyone double check they were in 6th.

This is my first 6 speed.

So 6th is strange for me.

Then i jump into the 87 and I'm trying to get reverse on the left.

Then i drive my wife's car and I'm reaching for a clutch that doesn't exist. Then when i park her car i can't get the key out because i left it in d.

    My mind.... It's gone

Or worse, looking for the clutch and finding the brake.

Apparently you have to have a giant ego to buy a stick.

Anyone who has EVER mistaken/missed a gear should stop buying manuals. Oh look, Toyota just announced no more manuals for any of their vehicles because people stopped buying them. Is that what we want?

Yeah, let's keep discouraging people from buying manuals. Geez it's just a discussion about a display..

What's really fun is when you're coming to a stop, so you reach for the clutch and shifter to go to neutral, but it's not there. You panic because you're about to stall but there's no clutch pedal or shifter. Then you remember it's an automatic with the gear selector on the column. May or may not have happened to me a few times lol
