Engineering on low volume stuff is always interesting. I've learned that the costs are my thing. My sights are way lower now.

I just found it on Google Image as an illustration. Also a funky shifter for a Fiat. And my little 10 speed in the KenWorth cab, it gets floated until next week when I retire!040B80DD-4604-46EC-B9BF-A24C6BF8E36F.jpgDE1EAF9D-3A3C-4EA1-BF3C-70087D7F9E5A.jpg

Congrats! I might get there someday.

I have always wanted to try out a semi.

    That logbook is pretty neat.

Thanks! We will all be 65 someday, God willing. It’s weird I’ve made my living from truck driving, being a college graduate and all. Wearing a tie and working for peanuts lost its appeal pretty quick.

    I'm hoping!

Oh yeah! Esp if you don't want to play the corporate games.

At least a tie was never a thing out here. But the peanuts part was real. Great job busting out of that!

By way of a confession, I flew out to St. Louis MO. to pick up a new 3rd gen. at about 4PM I took delivery of the new truck after a short road test around the block. made sure I got my bed cleats, all the books were in the glove box, full tank of gas etc. I took off towards Dallas with sun going down. Confident I could "feel my way" thru the gears. As it turned out, I drove the next nine hours at frwy. speeds. in sixth gear back to Dallas, I had forgotten or overlooked sixth. I was mad at myself for making this purchase, because of the poor MPG. barely 17. I had just sold a 3rd gen. 2wd. auto. the same trip netted just over 22 MPG.
Long story short....It would have been very nice to to have an in dash "Gear Indicator" Perhaps a Heads up type display.
    My .02 cents worth.

So you’re saying you drove 9hr, roughly 600 miles? Surely you stopped at least once for gas. Somehow you never noticed you only rowed 5 gears yet an indicator is what would have made all the difference here?

As I rip around lake Lavon , 32 miles of switchbacks, hairpins and long sweepers on my old Honda Blackbird. racing my friends, on similar bikes There is no need for a gear indicator, or Tach. if you are riding hard enough to be competitive. You are focused on the road in front of you, and the sound of that engine. no time for looking down.

@jowybyo Yes I did stop twice, for gas " thanks QT for being open" went strait to bed, got up about noon, filled up, divided my gas into my miles traveled. anyway now that I am making use of the 6th gear, in cooler weather MPG are much better 23-24 with cruise set.
