I don't think they're the rarest, just not as common anymore. Up until 2005 you could only get a 5speed manual, then they brought the 6 speed in with the 2nd gen v6. Nowadays you can only get a 6 speed manual Tacoma. Unless you buy used of course

I’m honestly surprised Toyota didn’t carry over the 5 speed into the base model SR.

They did up until either this year or last year, I can't remember. But the 1st couple 3rd gen years had it in the base model, but they recently did away with the 4 banger 5 speed. Was a dark day for Toyota enthusiasts as Toyotas reputation was partially built on that combo

My wife found a sweet deal on a car once, only problem for her wad that is was a 6speed MT. Bought the car on Saturday and spent the weekend learning. She was on her own Monday morning to go work. People give her lots of kudos now when she drives the 6speed taco.

6speed MT on 2014 DCSB TRD OR. We get offers for it all the time. The dealer wants to buy it back every time they see it. Didn’t think it was that rare.

Took me forever to learn stick, but once I did I haven't driven anything but that since (going on 15 years). I remember my dad trying to teach me and after a week he was suggesting I trade the car I just bought back in on an automatic lol. I eventually got the hang of it.

Yup, 2017 was the last year and I’m glad I found one to keep part of history alive.

    5spd AC.

I hope you are right, I think the 3rd gen looks great but I don't know if I trust the motor yet. I prefer my 2015 model for now.

That’s why I went 2.7 3rd gen. Tough bullet to bite originally wanting a v6 though. I couldn’t justify paying what a lot of 2nd gen 4.0 owners are asking for their truck. Inflated as hell.

3rd gen is really sexy too.

OVTune is in the process of testing a twin turbo and supercharger at the moment, there’s a thread about it on here somewhere, looks promising. They are listed on there website but marked sold out. I love my 3rd gen but the motor is pretty blah.

This is what I got from the guy. I suppose it would be possible if they figured out how to disable the Atkinson cycle on the 3rd gen.

Just stumbled upon this group. 2011 DCSB Trd off-road 6speed! Any of you guys running the URD short throw? Been looking into doing a few “performance mods” and wanted some input and ideas. No plans for forced induction but would like to get a little more response out of the 4.0 and make it a little more fun to drive then it already is. All I’ve ever owned is manuals but I’ve never done the clutch upgrades, short throws, or tunes. So I’m kinda clueless when it comes it. Been looking into starting with a short throw and Pedal Commander to start. Would that make it a little more enjoyable to drive or should i go a different route? Thanks for any input or help!

I would go with a trd or core/Hurst short throw over the urd. They are direct short throw shifters where the urd is adds an intermediate linkage that sometimes is notchy or doesn't behave from what I've heard.

the URD behaves fine, but it's not in the same category as the Core, which is super direct and mechanical. i have had both and the Core wins without any question.
