I have a 6mt with almost 400k that's showing signs of age like rough shift into 5th, sounds like loose gravel swirling around when cold in 1st, hard to get into reverse. When the time comes are there other transmissions that bolt up to the 4.0 that I should consider or just simply replace the ra60? Anyone who's been down this road I'd like to hear what you learned. Thanks

I’d look at changing the fluid and rebuilding it. You could use a spare.

there are many different transmissions. Many different years of production where they change.
I might not even put another RA60F in it.

once I bought a used low mile manual trans from a junkyard. They said it worked. It did not. Whirring in first. Because of a TSB where the input shaft pits and needs replacing.

point is you don’t know what you’re getting used not to mention false advertising. It’s not something that can be tested out of the car on a shelf.

that way if you do end up with a second, if one has issues, one can be rebuilt while the truck is still driveable even if there is a concern.

I’m sure there’s info on rebuilding, parts kits, and even places that do it if you don’t want to.
