Miata clutch and shifter is almost like telepathy, my personal reference mark for a good manual setup. I just wish I fit in them better.

The P-car guys never believe me that the miata shifter is superior.

    It is the benchmark!

I love my 96 Miata, I am 6'3" so I just barely fit in mine with the top up but I only ever drive it in the summer so I never have the top up.

My first car was a a '92 Sunburst Yellow Miata. I miss that thing. It's spoiled me for life. Next best manual was the Golf GTI

I did the ADM mod and it helped a lot. 1-2 is still tricky, and sometimes 2-3. What has helped me the most is just to put a little pressure on it and let it fall into gear, then ease off the clutch. Don't get in a hurry. If I rush it I will have a rookie feeling shift. I shift around 2000 most of the time.

If I wasn't a tight ass I'd get the tune and I'm sure that would help a lot more based on what I've read.

Miata and Tacoma...the best of all possible worlds.

If you like MT’s at all, you generally like the challenge of driving anything with a clutch. I have had my Taco 2 years and am pretty used to it by now.

It’s not really a bad MT, in fact quite a bit smoother—once you get used to it—than some like the WRX. That one continued to surprise me even after 4 years of ownership.

That's good to know. I had a '17 forester that was a PITA. I eventually found out the port injection + overly obtrusive emissions controls were to blame for the terrible rev hang. I was a bit worried about the Tacoma's rev hang when I first searched the forums, but it's NOTHING compared to the rev hang of subi's. At least the Tacoma's revs drop, albeit more slowly than I'd sometimes like; the Subi's revs would legit stay stuck where they were sometimes for more than an entire second before beginning to drop.

I'm learning that my muscle memory from my GTI and my Genesis is not too helpful with this truck...slow and steady win the race here :)

Rev hang is actually a good thing emissions wise. Performance cars should have an engine mode that reduces/eliminates the hang though

Hey @arthur106! Congrats on the new truck and welcome to the forum! Yeah like everyone said, the MT from the factory is a little "quirky". You will get used to it and shifts will become smooth even with accumulator. The lack of low end in 1, 2 , and reverse is pretty annoying. It is stupid we have to resort to a "Tune" to get it right...
I also recommend the 2wd low mod, its a lifesaver. 2hi Reverse gear ratio is a joke.
No kidding!! I tried reversing my 3,000lbs trailer up a long slanted driveway today. I was either lugging the motor trying to get more torque or burning the heck out of the clutch. I was in 2High. 2LO mod is 100% needed.

I have a feeling that if I drove a rig with the accumulator still on I'd probably hate it. What I'm trying to say is that it's so great you eventually get used to it and forget about it so I definitely recommend it!

2B347E56-C668-4AA4-AC61-FF5546FFE04D.jpg it’s basically this set-up.. but with three levers instead of one.. one lever to shift gear(middle), one to shift into 2nd set of gears(right), one for high/lo(left). If you watch his hands you can follow along, maybe. Those things are super fun to drive.. intimidating as hell.. but fun once you get the hang of it.

    Thanks, I hate it.

Why would anyone do this to themselves?
