LOL add to that the fact that he’s double clutching every time he moves a lever. I really wish the video captured his footwork as well.
And ya’ll complain about an accumulator LOL

That’s also why even they have autos now.

Jesus Christ. I love manuals, but is this for real? I have 0 experience with semi truck transmissions.

    1. I’ve never had this in my 6MT. Maybe try some 303 on it?

    2. I get this clunk all the time, especially when on dirt roads. I was worried about it at first, but I did a bunch of research and it seems common and not really a problem. Apparently 2nd gen tacos do the exact same thing.

    3. I’ve had that problem a couple times too, and I’ve only ever owned MT vehicles. It’s the Clitch accumulator. I haven’t done the ADM mod myself, maybe someday. Overall, I think the MT in the taco shifts pretty damn smoothly.

I run a 5 speed truck with a two speed rear axle every now and then. Split shifting 5x2 and double clutching is the most I'd ever want to do.

That guy can keep that nonsense.

Coming from. A Ram 2500 cummins with a 6 speed G56, the Tacoma feels like shifting a Miata

Shift at or above 2500rpms when going from 1st to 2nd gear. Below 2500rpms will always have rev hang which will shock load your trans if you engage the clutch too soon.

Yeah I usually shift at 3000 or else it is tough to make 1-2 smooth. Definitely would recommend the clutch accumulator mod. I did it on my truck after 20k or so and wished I had done it on day 1.

I respectfully disagree. I shift below 2500 from 1st to 2nd quite often if im not in a rush. Shifts perfectly smooth unless i screw up the footwork. Ive done that stock and tuned.

ADM is great! I could never rev match properly with that POS. I removed it when i had about 5k miles on it. What a useless device that accummulator is.

You're right, it's possible. Just depends on the road, if your engine is cold etc. I'm used to turning out my house and immediately going up a hill with a cold engine, my truck doesn't like it when I shift early in that situation especially.

I agree about driving when the engine is cold. Gotta really pay attention when shifting from 1st to 2nd.

I’ve had little trouble or complaints about how my truck shifts. I wouldn’t mind experimenting without the clutch accumulator, but it’s not a top priority. My thought is that it's a safety net for my drivetrain when I mess up a shift when I get distracted by a cute mall crawler doing wheelies outside Walmart. One complaint is that below ~0F the clutch gets really damped/sticky/stiff like it’s full of molasses and the accumulator might be to blame.

I do notice a weird soft clanking/clunking sound when shifting that none of my other manual transmissions have made. I’ve come to assume it is normal for this truck.

I do feel like I have to rev the engine higher than I would like to when shifting from 1 to 2 and I’ve blamed it on the relative gear ratios and engine torque curve. It makes it challenging to drift around a sharp snow covered corner when a accelerating from a stop. 1st is too low, 2nd is too high, and the engine bogs down in 4wd due to too much traction.

I also think reverse is geared too high for my tastes. I have 33’s on my truck, so it’s even worse than normal.

When it is below about 30 though the clutch is sluggish though, you notice the fluid being more viscous.

    30F or 30 kelvin? I don't notice it until around 0F. :)

TBQH all vehicles I have owned get stiff and slow at 0F, but this truck is a dream at cold temps except for the clutch.

Start to notice it at 30f, gets more pronounced as it gets colder. I agree aside from the clutch its excellent in cold weather.

Agreed. The Tacoma sits between my old 6spd Dodge and 6spd GTI.

My taco feels like shifting a miata after my 07 4.0 ranger. Ranger's manual tranny shifter was like 2 feet long and was pretty rough, especially first and reverse. When it was cold out, good luck getting into those gears. Great truck though, i miss it.
