Is it the adaptive stuff they are having issues with? I know it threw a lot of people when the second Gen dropped. I admit it was weird having the truck downshift under braking...was new to me.

People will always find something to complain about. I still say it is mostly overblown at this point though. I'm hesitant to dismiss anyone flat out since I have had 2 or 3 TSB's for the engine tranny myself, but I still say the double OD tranny is stupid and unnecessary. 6th in the AT is strictly for flat, no wind steady cruising, otherwise it will drop to 5th. It will always downshift. I'd also venture to say that most users here don't realize 5th and 6th are still OD.

I think the only way I’d buy a 3g AT is by immediately putting in 4.88 gears to get the ratios closer to the MT.

My neighbor had a stock 6mt Trd sport and he averaged 24 on the highway, with a canopy. MPGs drop dramatically though soon as you add a roof rack, big lift and tires.

That being said my 6AT with 2" lift, 285s, and front/rear bumper/sliders still gets 19-20 on the freeway if i'm driving conservatively and about 17 in the city.

strangely, if i drive with my foot in it for an hour on the highway, i'll get 16-17. if i drive the same truck and same speed but light and gentle on the throttle, i'll get 18-19. same everything, just a different and lighter touch on the throttle. so sensitive. i have proved this over and over, same drive, same everything.

I've also noticed that if I steady cruise on the gas for awhile and completely lift off the throttle, then slowly roll back into it, my MPG improves at the same speed according to the meter on the dash. It's like it stays under load or something until you break the throttle.

Very true. Also, there is the full, partial, and unlocked TC that adds to the OD gearing confusion. I'm a big fan of locked TCs, but with the three modes and what you and others say about 6th, I would almost have to run an OBD app almost constantly.

IMHO, I am a fan of double ODs, given the proper gearing.

Get it! It's the only way

Edit: if you get the off-road trim, you get a sunglasses holder where the AT truck has crawl control and terrain select controls

The sport and sr5 have hill control for manuals, the off-road and pro do not.

I can't remember if the manual truck didn't get the top line audio system if you got the premium trim, it's probably changed for 2020 anyways.

    I'd still get a manual.

Sports get the sunglass holder also.

SR5 didn't come with an MT. It was the SR. But, right on about the Hill Assist. I wish there was a way to toggle it.

    That also jogged these nuggets:

The Hill Assist is different and a bit weird in the AT ORs and Pros.

The ORs and Pros (AT and MT) have the electro-hydraulic brake booster. MTs have ATRAC instead of MTS / CC in the ATs. The rest of the models have the common vacuum brake booster.

At the loss of rear diff lock and ATRAC. ;)

It's more accurate to say that the AT off-road has MTS / CC *on top of* the regular ATRAC system the MT off-road has.
Conversely, you could say that the MT truck has a clutch pedal to chose the amount of wheel slip and idle speed, instead of MTS / CC.

If that’s a question, you don’t want an MT. The end.

    Agreed! Good stuff.

It is amazing how many differences there are between models and the option packages. That doesn't even getting into small stuff, like the TRAC modes and such.

Thanks to all so far....keep it coming. If I jump, it's gonna be quick and I don't have time to do thorough due diligence on them right now.

Anything you wished you have gotten or not gotten as far as options?

I did some mods and bought some stuff I really didn't need in the early days of my 06. Next truck will only be 'essentially' modded. Tow pig & dedicated off-roader with trailer is the only way to go if you want to get serious about 'froadin. I just need decent capability these days.
