You have a lot more miles on yours then, I have 52K on mine. I would think using synthetic would help with the synchronizers. When I drained out factory fill there was very little metal dust on the magnetic drain plug. Good sign and the oil was fairly clean. I read about horror stories on these transmissions but if you drive it like a truck they should be fine. No speed shifting, leave that to your hot rod. :D

24MM or 15/16 both will work and use a 6 point socket, not a 12 point. I actually used 15/16 since it snug up a little tighter on the plugs. The 24MM was a tad loose.

I will assume it was more than the $40 I paid for 2 quarts of RP and $3 for the crush gaskets. It's not hard to do, just have to crawl under her. The hard part is filling, I used a rubber hose and squeezed the bottle, but have bought a pump since then and did my front differential which made it so much easier. I would suggest the screw on hand pump for filling. Got mine at Napa for about $8.

Yeah after 30 years of changing the gear oil out on a muncie rockcrusher never once did it squirt out taking the fill plug out first, only Toyota.

never take out the drain plug if the fill plug doesn't come out first.. unless of course, you have a backup plan to fill the tranny with fluid.

Yeah its not just so the oil drains easier. If you drain it and can't get the fill plug off you're hooped until you can haha.

Yep, i've done that on my older cars. However this doesn't work for folks with a cable tranny. So it doesn't work in every situation.

Man, I just replaced my transfer case with local auto parts' synthetic and now it runs like CRAP! Going to spring for the redline and put it in the manual tranny and transfer case.

Is mt90 safe to use all around? I heard people say regular dino oil is best in the differentials. Plus it calls for gt-5

Yah I did the same thing- went mt90 for the tranny and transfer case them regular dyno oil for the diff's with LSD additive in the rear. Runs great now! It almost pains me not to put synthetic in the diff's but I guess it doesn't work as well.
Shifting is much smoother with the mt-90. Great oil!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with synthetic in the diffs. It will work better in every way if you put the right stuff.

After putting Amsoil severe gear in, my truck runs like brand new again. I put it in everything including the manual transmission.

Here is a full white paper doing rigorous tests on all the synth gear oils.

The amsoil came out far far ahead which is why I used it.

My shifting is smooth like butter, my diffs are quiet and smooth. It's great.

Interesting. I tried Severe Gear in my 6sp and it didn't help at all. MT90 has been the best for me.

This is far from the first time I've heard this which is why I just went dyno in the diff's. The mt90 in the tranny and transfer case seems to be great but I wanted to out something better in the diff's. However, I heard regular was the best. Is the amsoil synthetic?
