That basic reverse switch design has been in use since the late 70's.

I suspect this will be a common swap in the years to come.

    My shit is all stock.
    I’m betting it will be.

Currently I’m on the home stretch with this whole thing. I do have a couple of other things that need taking care of while the truck is up on stands. Primarily the cat on the LH manifold that needs replacing. I spent the bulk of my day futzing with that.

Left hand catalytic converter is all replaced and welded up.
Throwout bearing is completely installed and ready.
Three bottles of gear lube on standby.
Miscellaneous hardware and new exhaust gaskets acquired.

I’m going to try to get this thing up and into the truck this weekend. Hopefully Sunday.

There's a gear oil fill port on top of the transmission... allows easy fill and less mess as we can just wait for the oil to appear at the side fill/overflow. It's not easily accessible when the trans is installed.

That's handy. Thanks for pointing that out. I was planning to either dump it into the shifter hole or pump it from the side.

One thing you should do and this is coming from the fj case thread. Make sure the tcase input spline count and the transmission output spline count match up. The 2nd gen taco m/t tcase is 22 spline. The a/t is 23 spline.

marlincrawler says the 3rd gen stuff is different. Just a heads up with all the talk about tcases in the FJ TCase thread and make sure you have everything correct.

    Here’s what I’m talking about.
    upload_2021-2-6_16-6-53.jpg

We know that the ra60 is 22 spline. So I would make sure that the rc62f isn’t 19 spline like marlin keeps spouting. Especially if u go with A/T fj tcase or M/t awd fj tcase.

They list it as 19 because several (should be 3, but I never counted) of the females splines on the transmission output do not exist. Toyota purposely omits them, leaving a path for oil flow into the center of the shaft. The 22 spline transfer input shaft slides right in.... always good to be careful, though.

Like Brian says, spline count is skewed because of the three missing splines on the transmission side.

    They fit together no problem.

For this round, I’m just putting the original transfer case back in behind the new trans.

I do have dreams of the FJ’s M/T AWD case. But, that’s in the future.

is there even oil flowing that highs up at the input shaft? With seals on each end I did not even think oil was routed there

There sure is... these trans have a really neat oil collection and distribution system.

Rolled it on under. Ended up pulling it back out and reversing the jack. I couldn’t get the angle I needed with it this way. I use an angle finder to set the angle of the trans to match the engine. Makes for a lot less futzing around when trying to stab a tranny.

My progression trimming the hole in the floor to suit. I went slowly. It’s easy to remove material. Less so to replace it.

I separated the rubber booties and reversed the lower/inner one. Here you can see roughly where it will now live.

The floor editing continues. I rough cut a piece of sheet metal (stolen from the scrap of my bimmer project) and traced the opening I needed to close up onto that. Trimmed thusly 10mm larger and flanged it.

I will be using panel bond for this piece. Welding inside the truck would be an undertaking. Preventing spark damage and such. Panel bond is plenty strong. There’s really no big loads here.

Here’s the body prepped as viewed from underneath.

A quick console and boot check. Barely noticeable change.
