    Aloha from Hawai'i!
Just wondering if anyone's ever seen or heard of taking a 6 speed 2nd or 3rd gen Taco manual trans and fitting it up to a 1st gen 3.4L.

Just wanted to start a discussion and see what gearheads show up to talk about the idea.

    Any thoughts?

Why what is your end game??

A custom built transfer case might be cheaper depending why??

When was the 6 Speed available was it ever mated to the 3.4.

A custom bell housing could be built

Are both the pilot shaft bearing the same size Machining the crank to a for a custom one mean the engine coming out and apart.

Honestly you won't gain much. I had this same thought when I bought my truck and after some research I concluded the 5spd is fine. You would need so many custom parts and mounts and adapters that it'd cost more then it would be worth. The 5spd manual trans on our trucks is solid. There is a reason swapping a 6spd in to our trucks is not really talked about and why no one has really done it.

Would it be cool? Absolutely! Would it be practical? Absolutely not.

Thanks for the succinct answer to my question. I tried to search for the topic in the forum and elsewhere and came up with zilch so i kind of figured as much. Had to ask though.

Thanks all for you input as well

Not much real benefit to adding another gear to the 3.4, the 5 speed is good enough ratio wise and has little torque to take advantage of the extra gear.

Though just your reason for thinking about this what were you trying to gain or accomplish .

Just because I can is always a good answer .

Then that whole nasty budget comes into effect as well.

Would building a Custom R150F accomplish what you were trying to do . Cutting gears is not hard( with the tools and skill) the hard part is figuring out what needs to be done to get your desired results.

If there was any real benefit someone would market a very expensive kit .

    Interesting to say the least.
