Has anybody thought of taking a 6 speed trans out of a 2nd gen and putting it in a 1st gen?

Has anyone done this or can it be done?

It probably can be done but the cost is probably not worth it in the end.

Anything can be done if you want to pay for it.

i wonder tho...is it basicly the same gearing with 6th being a lot taller? or is 1st way shorter? In other words would it even be worth it..

I don't know about gearing. I was just wondering would it bolt up and what would have to be done to make it fit

I think 1st is way shorter and 6th is probably about the same as 5th in the 1st gen 5 speeds.

Well...i bet the bell housings are different..and you'd prolly need a custom drive shalt. But really...i bet thats it. Two really big important custom parts that will cost a ton of money lol

Well if thats the case, not worth IMO. I want a taller OD gear for better highway mpg lol

I'll keep my 1st gen 5 speed... I've read way too many bad things about the 6 speed manual in the 2nd gens to make it even close to worth it.

It's an 89 Toyota Pickup. I got some stuff done to it.. FJ axles going under it soon.
6 speeds suck balls in those trucks, bootsie ass trannys...don't do it.

You'd be better off saving yo cash up, and getting a custom bellhousing adaptor plate to put in a Getrang 6 speed.

hell might as well swap a new motor. If ya want the 6 speed, swap in the 4.0L too.

    Do a Hilux diesel swap!

or put the new 4.6l v8 from the tundras in it!
