im going to put my truck on my 6 ton pro lift jackstands later

i see the oem front jackpoints in front of the crossmember, on frame, behind the front wheel areas

question: that area of the frame is pretty thick and wide (wider than the middle of the frame-sides for instance, and the jack stand cups wont reach the outsides of the frame on each side...and theres not pinch welds or anything to cradle...and my truck is fluid filmed and be sitting on top of the cups of stands, whats to stop it from sliding off???

my boss said put cardboard between stands and frame but im kind of surprised or wondering what people do for this?

    thanks

I use these rubber pads on my 3 ton stands. I'm not sure how much they help, but it's extra reassurance.

i like those (i run a nice piece for my big floor jack, like a hockey puck made for the lift point)

but for the stands, maybe yours help with friction on a dry frame, mine is fully oiled and wonder if the rubber would slide off...
i mean i could wipe the areas of oil before hand but was hoping someone might say the weight of the truck wont allow it to slide off
the top of stand cups but idk, seems a little sketchy. im 6'4 210 lbs and going to be pulling around pretty good under there, could i push the truck off the oiled, non cradled jack stands on the frame?

i always chock tires and whatnot too

    thanks again

with or without fluid film i wonder about the front jack stands oem recomended location. they wont be cradling anything, just flat surface to tips of stand cups...i will wipe oil i suppose anyway, but dont have more fluid film (i do have motor oil i can use with a brush or paper towel tho)

when i lift my girls crv i put the stands on pinch welds, cradled nicely

unless you have the strength of hercules, and rocking the entire truck like a Gorilla, that truck isnt going to slip off any jackstand no matter HOW much oil, grease, lard, crisco, lube, snot or whatever else you can think of to use!!

No need to cradle anything. Make sure you're lifting on a level surface. Chock the tires in contact with the ground.

Per YouTube (ChrisFix, EricTheCarGuy), before getting under it, give the vehicle a few hard pushes when it's on jack stands, to make sure it won't move.

I know its a bit scary getting under a vehicle, but unless you are seriously yanking the truck around, that 4000lb truck is not slipping off a level jackstand.

FWIW I also have a greasy NHOU coated truck and have had similar concerns in the past. I have the rubber pads designed for pinch welds but like you said they dont cradle anything on the frame, I still use them though. The only time I have had mine "slip" (more just move, it didn't fall while I was working) was when I had one end of the truck very high and the other on the ground, so it was lowering onto the stand at a steep enough angle that the top of the stand slid/kicked forward and I had to reposition it. I always lower slowly and watch so I noticed and fixed it, and I always give some really hard shakes and jumps to makes sure its secure. I also try and put the jack on the frame where one of the crosspieces would stop this from happening when possible.

    Gravity is unspent energy.

My preferred method is to lower the vehicle down onto wood blocks under the wheels, when feasible. So there’s no chance I’ll be killed if it falls because it can’t fall.

If I gotta take wheels off or something and have to use jack stands I make sure my brain is functional. Look at them & make sure they’re sitting flat. Do the gorilla shake equal to whatever amount of torque I plan to use. I’ve been under, glance over to see them leaning over with 2 of 4 legs up in the air. I’ve also torqued on something very tight and had it lean the stands.

Another good idea is to put something under so if something goes wrong you won’t die. A wheel, the jack, wood blocks.

At work, someone was killed working on asphalt on a very hot day. The asphalt softened, the vehicle fell on him.

Another failure I had when I had an old Chevy with a bumper hook jack. Got a rear flat. As soon as the wheels came off the ground, it rolled and fell. I should have chocked the front.

Projectfarm did a good review of a bunch of different stands. It’s shocking what you can buy.

Think, live, learn. Or don’t think, don’t live so you won’t need to learn.

    Update
I did this and it worked well, gave her shake test and put my big floor jack under there too
Thanks for advice. I have a great collection of 2x4 and 2x8 around lol

I only gave myself 5" or 6" added room for the front diff oil job but got it done

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
IMHO, that's much worse than having the frame sitting directly on the stands.

i wanted to increase friction surface area
