Im looking at a 03 Tacoma Pre Runner xtra cab to replace my recently totaled 04. It has a 6" TM Lift w/King coilovers. Is this a good lift kit? (2nd strut and all...)? Can the drop bracket be removed to go back to stock easily (using King C/O's)? Was this frame cut for lift? Any opinions? Truck also has 35" and is regeared for them.
    Thanks in advance

I thought 4x2's don't require cutting of the crossmember??? I would check or ask the owner. If you plan on removing the DB kit, I would just find a stock Tacoma so you can build it right and enjoy the fun of doing it from stock to built.

Thanks for reply. My 04 had a 3" Toytec spacer lift w/285's. Loved my truck, but was planning on doing coilovers eventually. That truck was totaled about a month ago and I have been looking, and looking. The 03 I found is really nice, has low miles (79K) and a lot of really nice parts. Im just not 100% sold on the TM/DB kit, thats all. So the money hes asking is fair, but I kinda would like the option if I dont like the drop bracket. Otherwise unmolested Tacos are pretty much the same asking price in my area, then add $$ for new susp mods....Im kinda split down the middle on what would best for me? I look at this truck tomorrow. Its really clean, looks to have never been off road. Has 35" Maxxis/Eagles, 5100's rear. White/Gray just like my old truck. The 2003 truck is 12K BTW. I was paid VERY well for my totaled 04 too. What to do?

That just goes to show that modify parts are worth crap when selling with the truck. You are better off to part it. I would buy stock if you plan on building it yourself.

I wound up getting the truck. Its really clean. Appears to have never been off-road. No paint/body work ever. Low miles too. Got it for 10K to replace my totaled 2004 Taco

There is a replacemnt strut using Gabriel struts from 91 VW Jetta. I was aware of that before I bought it. It does drive great. Sits level. Again, I dont think this truck has ever touched dirt. I'll get some susp pics up soon.

Thanks I'll keep an eye on it for sure. Yes, the strut mounts to spindle(!). I cant tell if its cut, or just the strut is bolted to it.
I was pretty much thinking I may (at some point) swap some A/M UCA's and get rid of the TM kit (eventually). for a 3" +/+ total lift....later. I work in a body shop and one of the yards I use should be able to get me the missing stock stuff cheap (if needed). Truck was also regeared for the 35's which helps

To be honest, Im not sure yet. Ive only put about 300 miles since I got it. I'll tell ya one thing, Its seems a little worse than my 04 Pre Runner 2wd, w/285's and 3" kit. But I drive like an azzhole, and NOTHING gets good mileage when I drive it.

So far,so good. Theres no funky noises, oozes, clunks, groans, humms ('cept the tires) and Im getting new 315 Terra Grapplers tomorrow. I had them on my 04 for 1st set of 285's and they were great. Keep in mind, while I live in the dez, I dont do any hardcore wheelin'. I ride desert dirt bikes quite a lot (XR600R & CR500R) and it will mainly be used for hauling my bikes, camping etc which would be mild desert stuff...no rock crawling or dunes

Do you have any pics of the upper control arm? Want to see what the knuckle and UCA look like.

The 2nd strut can be replaced w/a strut cartidge for 91 VW Jetta. I agree this kit is funkadelic, and would not be choice if I were doing a lift. With that being said, it rides great, the struts are good. But I may ditch the DB and do something else (nelson18matt's truck is waaay nice), adding back UCA's, maybe going back to 3"-4" lift, 33"...maybe. For now, its good. There is a reason the TM kits were discontinued.
    YotaDan,
Here is a better shot of the strut, which is attached to knuckle
again, reason this kit is disc...;)

Plus it adds $hit-load of funky brackets:
