The simple answer to your question is to reprogram the ECU for the sensors in the mounted tires each time you change a tire.

Thank you hoarder23! That’s what I was looking for! A simple “It is doable”

    I greatly appreciate it!

That being said, it’s a terrible idea for many of the above mentioned reasons. Plus many tire shops are going to be unwilling to change it or take significantly to do so.

    Good luck on your adventures.

Hey, good looking truck…like the graphics and I do believe there are plenty of remote places with scree slopes/roads where sidewall slices cannot be plugged. Plus, it’s your truck, your dollars and your prep…do what you want!

I recently purchased this to handle my snow tires. ATEQ claims this only works with OEM sensors but it did register a non-OEM replacement on my wife’s Jeep. It takes under five minutes to scan the four tires in the position they are in on the truck and upload the new configuration to the ECU. It will register the new TPMS within 5 minutes / 2-3 miles of driving.

I can’t be certain it works with non-OEM but the wheels I’m using for snow tires came with OEM sensors and it’s flawless.

This maybe a dumb question, but other than a dashboard warning light from the TPWS is there any impact to operating the truck? In other words, can you just leave the TPWS off whatever tires you need to? My Tacoma is a 2015 so it without the system, my 2007 FJCruiser is w/out the TPWS so I check pressure all by myself every few months. Just curious if it’s possible to just ignore implication of a six tire rotation ‘cause you can manage it w/out the the truck nanny?

Nope, just an annoying light. I ran no TPMS sensors in my truck during snow season for the first (5) years. My light would turn on 12 miles from home like clockwork since I had my stock sensored wheels in my cellar right next to the garage where I parked. The truck only noticed the missing sensors that far away.

OP, you’ve chosen to post on an internet forum. Responses could come from literally anyone. If you’re gonna stick around here, get used to getting unsolicited advice when you ask for help, and get good at ignoring it. Or, maybe some of it will be useful, who knows?

No impact, I run Steelies with no TPMS for 6 months out of the year. No issue other than the light comes on after half an hour of driving..

At least I have something to go do now...

Is it too late to add that I just threw my TPMS monitors away and put a piece of electric tape over the warning light?
