However, due to emissions in new models this option would never be possible. 4 cylinder turbos are here to stay.

I have no idea how many 4th gen Tacomas have been sold, but here we are nearing the end of August and I have seen exactly one 4th gen Taco on the west side of Los Angeles, and spending a week in the Eastern Sierras last week where seemingly every other vehicle you see is a Tacoma, I saw two 4th gen Tacos. My gut feeling is that something has gone horribly wrong with how Toyota transitioned to the new model.

Well my local Toyota dealer has 15 2024 Tacomas on the lot. All the trim levels are currently discounted $2550-3050. That’s amazing considering last years sales. There was zero discounts. No truck selection on the lot. Basically every Tacoma due in was sold pending.

    Edit.
Plus I was told by said dealer. There’s a waiting list for gen 3 trade in’s

I'm surprised Toyota hasn't released 2025 Tacoma information not that I expect any changes. Mudbath color on Pro, and a slight price increase. Consumers need to know this info, might help move remaining 24s. Maybe they are waiting to release that info with the 25 4Runner.

Toyota could have done it but took the carbon credit kickbacks instead...

There is no doubt in my mind these 4th gens would be selling better with a 6cyl.

Maybe, maybe not. I think a lot has to do with pricing. When a '24 SR5 upfitted with options MSRP's for close to the outgoing '23 TRD Pro...

I went to the dealership and saw maybe four or five on the lot. They all had cloth seats which I assume is a lower trim package to keep the MSRP attractive.

I saw an add for the 4Runner some special financing rate, only time I recall seeing any Toyota advertised incentive. Economy is in rough shape if Toyota can't easily move 4Runners.

Same for me in Tampa. They had about 15 I think. 80% or so are the lower trim models.

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
I guess people didn't want the rear discs as bad as they said they did? :notsure:

13380 Showing on the lots as of this morning. Funny thing is last report I pulled from last week showed there were about 24k trucks on the lot so either there is a data issue somewhere or they sold a lot of Tacomas in the last few days.

The highlighted ones are the premium/halo trims.

This is exactly the situation in my area. If you have a late model 3G, especially a TRD OR or PRO, the dealers will buy it for WAY OVER the last MSRP and they are selling for a huge premium. Clean 3Gs are now selling for more than the discounted prices on 4Gs. Well done, Toyota. Well done.

How is the dealer going profit? There can't be that many people willing to pay a premium on a previously owned 3G. They could have bought new last year or the beginning of this year.

I'm not knocking the 3G, yeah they don't make them anymore. Toyota parts are expensive, if you got enough parts for a whole truck I can see some physical value that will always be there in parts if nothing else.

The demand is there. The 3G became an "instant classic", just as the FJ Cruiser did and I expect that the 5G 4Runner will.

Don’t try to make yourself feel better.
There’s nothing classic about a third gen Tacoma. It’s a basic mid priced midsize truck.
