This is not just Toyota or even cars people. Remember that in a few months.

I have a long memory. I remember when they put Camry engines in trucks and it didn't work. Solution? Even smaller displacement! lol

Turbo's can't really be compared to a N/A engine as far as HP/Torque curves go. A variable vane turbo will bring up HP/TQ at RPM's FAR lower then a N/A engine can produce. And they don't care if they are at sea level or at 11K feet to do their work.

The issues really come down to how the engine was designed to handle the higher outputs and pressures and the longevity of the parts.

What exactly about those didn't work? Older Camry and Toyota truck engines are stupid reliable so I'm assuming you're referencing performance? If so, the new 2.4 outperforms any Tacoma engine before it. Anyone who thinks otherwise either hasn't driven one or is a complete psychopath (I said what I said :duel:). Overall power and torque are better, low end torque is WAY better, and the addition of an 8 speed all but ensures that you won't get to experience the joy in it hunting for gears constantly.

I came from a 5th Gen 4Runner with the bigger 4.0 and this Tacoma is, simply put, a better driving experience. It's not even close. Now, will this engine be as reliable as the 4.0? No one can truly say. We can all postulate but "the proof's in the pudding" and it'll take years before anyone can factually state that this motor is more or less reliable than its predecessors.

I agree, it wasnt drastic but it was improved, besides the transmission clunk anytime I'd go from P to D or R, wasnt too reassuring or an experience of "joy."
