You are also right, that it's not just young people that commit these crimes and I feel terrible for those who lost their loved ones. Having my own children and grandchildren I just can't imagine the anguish but I don't think placing the blame entirely on access to guns is going to solve the problem. All one has to do is take a look at Europe these days to see the Bad Guys using automobiles and knives to carry out their evil deeds. Like you I'm also not sure of the answer.

    Afternoon all:
I don't believe the access to guns will solve the problem either, it may limit the use of them in mass killings but bombs, vehicles, and maybe a few other things will take their place just like in Europe as stated above.
I don't know the answer either, something has gone way off kilter for whatever reason and there may be root problems that are right there in front of everyone but are now off limits in todays society to try to correct them. You reap what you sow comes to mind!

I've done a bit of shooting but have very little gun knowledge. If it's not an AR-15, what is it?

Colt bought the patent from ArmaLite Rifles in 1959 and renamed it the Colt Armalit2 AR15. Colt only produced samples and marketed the weapon to military around the world. The US Air Force first bought the rifle then the Army followed suit under the name of M 16.

Today AR 15 is a generic term used for any weapon the media see fit to use it on. Sad but true.

Hi Tom, the unknowing equate AR15 to anything that shoots and the media just keeps putting it out there for public to eat up. :annoyed::goingcrazy::notsure:

So what was the rifle he used if it wasn't. An AR-15? Apparently it had a pretty large magazine, the kid shot a heck of a lot of people.

    Better question ....

If this punk was expelled last year and then NOT allowed to carry a backpack into school .... how did he manage to bring a rifle like that to school?? Inquiring minds need to know.

One report I read said he started shooting outside the building. Maybe he just shot his way in. Then he walked through the first floor shooting into classrooms. Then he walked up to the second floor and shot into some more classrooms. Then he ditched all the weaponry and filed out with the rest of the kids they were evacuating.

I've been doing some reading on rifles. It looks like there are about 60 bazillion different rifles that take after the original AR-15 in looks and basic function. Must have been a good design. NSSF categorizes them as "AR-15-platform" rifles.

Many still prefer the AK 47 and older but effective military rifle.

They are always calling for a ban on the AR-15, look up the Remington 597 for which a 70 round magazine is available, it's only a .22 rimfire, looks nothing like an "assault weapon", but at close range could be deadly. Unfortunately the AR is the weapon of choice, but there are plenty of other choices when these losers decide to go on a rampage.
I see they are calling for a national protest day on gun control, just wondering when the national protest day will be held for all the young people whose life is being ruined and who are dieing due to the drug epidemic! :notsure: Bet that will never happen, even though app. 175 deaths per day can be attributed to opioid overdoses.
Hummm, just saw something else that makes me shake my head, a guy was just arrested and charged with his 28th DUI in MI. o_O

Totally agree Carl. Where does it begin and where does it end. Parents not watching what's happening under their roof because they are too busy with their own lives, doctors unable to let authorities know of problems because of patients rights, too much violence in the movies, tv and video games. And now everyone wants to take guns away again. Guns not available, home made bombs, knives or vehicles even baseball bats would then be used. Ban them all. :angrygirl::annoyed::argue:

I hear ya Carl. Our local school district had a huge heroin bust a few years ago. Now it's opioids. And the town of Reading is becoming a war zone. Four people gunned down on the street recently.

If you ask me -- which nobody does! -- kids need more viable alternatives. My generation had the college route, and it also had the vo tech route which was a genuinely decent option. I also knew a fair number of folks whose parent got them into a union factory job. Most of that kind of path pretty much went away when we became adults and all those jobs disappeared. These days it seems like the choices are college or Mickey D's. That ain't right.

    Evening all:
Reading has been bad for awhile, used to go out there on occasion to Disco Hugo, a friend of mines dad owned it, Hazleton is bad also! I just read an article where Meth is making a big comeback, and it's cheaper than ever.
Hear you Dave, seems if you can get a job at PP&L, Mack, Norefolk Southern, and a few others, it's like hitting the lottery today!

Ken, on a couple of other forums I'm on some are saying the exactly the same thing that you are about the underlying root cause of what is going on, I tend to agree. A school in our area just had a called in bomb threat, no injuries involved but that is also happening all too often.

The shame about the drug scene is it's hitting the middle class kids in school not just the poor folk and upper class. Now they want to ease the pot laws:rasta: next they'll be giving the drug dealers the key to the city.. Maybe it was the way I was raised and raised my kids, I dont think there is any common sense anymore:notsure:. Many towns upstate are getting hit hard with drug's. Every time we go up country and I pick,up a newspaper, there are plenty of drug arrests in the Bloomsberg area. Such a shame. Another place is Knoebels Park. Was a great park but now they are bussing them in from the cities and they have their hands full with fights and drugs:D. That's one reason I'm glad I'm in the golden years so I don't have to put up with as much shit as the kids growing up to day do. Have a good one guys and Ms
    Susan:hattip:

Good afternoon guys and Susan. Made hotel reservations today for Nashville and Memphis in the beginning of April this year.

Do you still have your Pop and Lock tailgate handle. I finally took mine off because it did not have enough travel to unlock the tailgate.

Hi Tom, heard a few others had problems with, their locks. I just found it easier to use the hose clamp mod because with,a soft tonneau the pop,n,lock wouldn't work for me. Have a safe and enjoyable vacation. Going to the Grand Ole Opry?
