    Also
Protest all you want, but you don't need to vandalize and loot like happens all too often! :(
Darn, was told the walleyes are hitting in the river, it's reasonably warm, and now it's too high to fish. :annoyed:

Slowly adding a little more snow to the Sierra snowpack, last couple storms yielded little but it helps. TV said up to 17 inches in one area and these have been small storms. More expected later today. The upcoming stovie campout looks like rain the first day, Thursday. Will see.

High water levels killed our Copper River Salmon success last Summer. We went too early and missed mark on the first run. After that the water level went up and we never got a window to go back. :frusty:

Water is high and muddy here and I am wanting to use my new boat.

Happy that we are not experiencing flooded homes though.

Yesterday was one of those days where my Dad was on my mind - he was a proud WWII/Korean Conflict Marine and I always wondered if he was disappointed that my path in the military took me from the USMC to the Army. I posted a copy of my discharge from the USMC on a friend's Facebook page - he was a young NCO in the battalion I commanded and now a Command Sergeant Major - with a comment along the lines of maybe he could have molded me into something better if he'd been around back then. His responses overwhelmed me. I think we all wonder if we've made an impact, certainly I have wondered that throughout the years, especially during the period where I was a battalion commander. I share this because although we may not know it, we many times make more of an impact than we know. He certainly made me stand a bit straighter yesterday.

    USMC Discharge.jpg

"Had this conversation Sir: " Dammit trooper, you are an excellent Soldier and have a future as an NCO. It just pisses me off to no end to lose that to the Officer Corps. However this is your choice and I will support you. Remember where you started, never forget that as an officer all look to you as the example. You cannot lose your temper, you must always make the right decision, and never, never say "I don't know" in front of the men. Once you have recovered from the front-leaning-rest you can write these notes down.... 1f642_2766b9899ee3629e5a09d5cce92b39232600d4ab.png

"You took command of our battalion as a Soldier and leader. Your first words to the NCO's was that the Bn's mission was to prepare for war, not Hohenfels. There was no bullshit or rhetoric, simply straightforward vision and intent. You always led by example, placed yourself in the spotlight as the base model for both Officer and Enlisted. We all gravitated towards your command presence, not out of awe or fealty, but out of a feeling of legitimacy and respect. No shit Sir, you were, out of all the officers I've served with, the very best. I can speak for those of us from the old 103d, we were ready and willing to follow you to the very gates of Hell itself and tear it down. You inspired by presence and inspiration, which is a rare commodity in leaders. 1SG Taylor, badass extraordinaire, he that molded me into the NCO I've become, told me he wished he'd had one such as you during his time in Viet Nam with the Marines. I speak for all of us and we are of a like mind. I am proud to say that, "Yeah, I served with COL Volk".

    Morning all:
That should have made your day Mark, I would be proud to receive that as I'm sure you were! That deserves a LIKE X 100! :oldglory:
You are being cheated though, all this rain could be snow and you could be out playing with the new toy! :D

You will get to use the new boat Gary, sooner or LATER!!! :(
Saw that there is a lot of flooding related to this storm, that stinks for those affected, good to hear you are out of the areas being flooded, stay safe.

    Forgot to post this here

Just got a late 70’s schimano bait caster from a tournament fishing co worker..
His grandfather gave it to him. He can’t use it because of right hand retrieving.
I didn’t want to take it but I have a old rod that will go good with it..
So I’ll use it a little this year and pay respect to his grandfather..
    All metal everything.... no plastic.....

Hope you catch a big one on it, then look up and say THANK YOU, nice of him to give you that reel.

    Evening all:
    X2, thanks Mike, that's a pretty place.
Don't you love when they hit right by the boat, and you miss them! It looks like there are some nice panfish in there, fun catching them on light tackle.
