Same thing happened to me Dave. Fortunately when my boss told me "I needed to think about my job" after I told him I had reservations and couldn't cancel my vacation, I had enough time to retire so I put in to retire. When he asked me why I didn't tell him I was retiring, I told him "I was to busy thinking about my job". He never said another word :D. Never ceases to amaze me how everything s an emergency for management until they have to do it. Then it is not an emergency:facepalm:.

That sucks! Ask for a raise, seems like you are worth it to your company.

Everyday I count my blessings that I was forced into retirement. I do not miss my job either.

Going to purchase a used surf board for $50 this afternoon. My SIL has been looking for one up at her cottage on Saginaw Bay. Wish me luck, this is from Craigslist.

    Afternoon all:
Get two surfboards Tom, one for your SIL and one for you!
Made a somewhat good buy today, went to an auction to check out a 660 Remington Magnum in 6.5 Rem. Mag. The gun went for more than I was willing to pay for it, but I was just as interested to see if there were any loaded shells or brass there and there was! I bought 3 full boxes of loaded shells, 1 box with 13 loaded and 3 once fired (missing 4, which I have and can add to the box), and a full box of once fired brass, all in perfect condition. I paid $110 for the lot, not bad when you see them advertised on Gun Broker for $80-$100+ a box for the loaded shells, and $200 per hundred for just brass!
One guy was bidding against me for them, hope he wasn't the guy that bought the gun. If he was and doesn't have shells for it he's going to find something out real quick if he needs ammo for it. For me, I just keep adding to the stash! :D

Sometimes I forget how old I am. I went to the UPS store to price shipping the surfboard. The lowest cost was $240 for my estimated weight and package dimensions. Was a real shocker. I was expecting $60 to $75. Estimated cost for FedEx using their on line calculator was about the same. Did a search for low cost shipping and came across a company called bus freighter. Their cost is $99 but I have to take it to the bus station, a half hour drive and pick it up at a bus station in Southfield MI. This seems like a better deal than strapping it to the roof our car.

Got my foundation repair to my mobile home all done the other day, just had to cut the plywood to size that goes over the repair, then screw on the flashing over that. Next, was to repaint the strip of plywood around the perimeter that ties the trailer to the foundation, it is omly 6" high except for the taller end pieces. Got that done yesterday morning after I wiped the area down with a wet rag to wipe off the Borac Care that ran when I sprayed it on to maybe keep ants from eating in. Also, cut a small piece of plywood to cover the hole where my faucet is and screwed in down so the freezeless faucet will stay in place when I tug on a hose. That has needed to be fixed for quite a few years. Like the shower head replacement that took five years and two minutes to do. :) The thrill of being single. Good day.
There is a Community Connections in the county, everyone exchanges labor/expertise on a equal time basis, going to help my neighbor next, to make one area of her yard fire safe. Dont know what the group can help me with for the time I have credited already, but maybe I shouldnt think about what I can get out of it.

The neverending home repairs :spending: I have been getting a pass on most outdoor chores while we are under excessive heat warnings here, but temps are moderating now so back to work :(

    Interesting.
Do,you have to do this or is it voluntarily done?
    Who keeps track of time?
Are you on a website with qualification or do people just post what needs to be done ?

Mike, volunteer basis, a part of social services, not sure if they are funded privately/business or part of the system. Individuals pay a little each year, a couple people maintain records, track time, send out emails for info and work requests. You notify them of your need or offer to help on requests you would like to do. Many local non-profits ask for help this way. I'm helping with a marathon in mid August, corner sitter for the Running With the Bears.

Afternoon all, weather here has been really messed up:facepalm:, Sunshine, then strong wind, Then clouds blow in and it rains like it's time to build an Ark. Then 10 minutes later the sunshine is back:confused:. Repeat every 20 minutes or so:annoyed:. Been like this for 2 days now and it's supposed to continue till Thursday. Mother nature must be mad at papa nature...

Lots of rain in DC too. I was on a mini vacation to Chautauqua NY and Johnsonburg PA last week. Well rested and ready to go to Michigan next week.

Went to see an Straight No Chaser in Chautauqua. Before the performance there was an Opera Invasion on the Plaza outside the venue. I have to say based on what I heard I would go to an opera.

Have a safe trip to Michigan Tom .

I enjoy all kinds of music (except rap) depending on what mood I'm in as to what I listen to. I guess rap is to me what rock n" roll was to my parents :Do_O. Opera isn't one of my favorites but I still enjoy some of them. All is good.

Good morning Susan, gang. Up early to jog a couple miles with Repo. Radio keeps saying in town will be close to 100, my ther-mo-meter has only been showing 85 or so, slowly gets up to 76 to 77 inside my mobile home, from 67 in the morning. Feel for people with trailers that are older or in the sun.
Finished cleaning up a area in my neighbors yard that she was unable to clear for fire protection, she is in her mid 70's, spent six hours raking and hauling evergreen needles and twigs. Time credited towards me thru Community Connections, have 13 hours of credit now, dont know what I can have others do for me, but shouldnt really expect it. Volunteering to help with a upcoming marathon, more credits I guess. Running With the Bears, a benefit to help foster kids.
Pic from camping a couple days ago, pup was bad so went by myself.

Eyeballing my bank account balance online yesterday and today. That doesn't look right, have not received this month's IRA withdrawal, that looks like too much compared to my checkbook balance, plus amount there doesn't equal the monthly withdrawal. Took a few minutes to locate my error in the checkbook, I had deducted too much for a check in my checkbook, over $300 in my favor. Woohoo!
Pray for the folks close to the Carr Fire here in N California, down by Redding. Another equipment operator lost to a fire in the state.

Horrific videos on the news of the fires out west and floods in CO and PA. I will quit complaining about our weather here for a while.
