Good morning all. Dont know if you have heard on the national news, main artery thru Kalifornia to Oregon, I-5 NW of me by 3 hours is still closed due to a forest fire, big rigs burned up etc. Road may open as the rigs have been cleared, but next issue is are burnt trees going to be a hazard? Detour roads aren't designed for the heavy traffic. Fire went from 15,000 acres to 22,000 overnight or since yesterday. No smoke here from that. Flames up to 200' to 300' high. Ouch!

Hi, Carl. I've been driving Champ pickups for the past 11 years. Unfortunately mine is in the body shop after I scraped the bed side backing up the driveway. The R1 was the base Avanti 289 with the 4bbl carb. It was rebuilt using R2 and R3 internals but is not supercharged. The owner of the shop recently died and his son is slowly trying to finish the work.
After buying my "new" Tacoma I am giving up on Studebaker ownership. It was a fun daily driver but it runs on ethanol free premium gas and gets about 10 mpg. We also love the A/C in the Tacoma. Will post pics when I get it back someday.

Welcome Robert! Looking forward to pictures of the 'Stude. I looked for one for a while back in the 1990's, then someone told me what kind of gas mileage they got!

Hi, Dave. Some Studes do get decent mileage with a 6 cyl. and 2 barrel carb. But they rust like mad!
The Champ was a Frankenstein truck. It was created from the Lark and 1959 Dodge bed grafted together. It was the end of the line for Studebaker.

Funny, that same truck was posted today on the Studebaker forum. I see the rust bubbles starting too.

    Hi Susan, gang,
The Delta Fire north of me by about a three hour drive is up to over 40,000 acres last night, zero containment. I-5 still closed. Can you imagine going from two lane in one direction to one lane? Past history, these fires in that area burn until rains come.
Looks like 36 or 37 degrees here this morning.

Welcome to the porch Robert. Sorry about the ankles. to heal quickly.

I stopped going up extension ladders about 5 years ago. I will go up on a 10ft step ladder but that is my limit now days.

Darn, another local guy did himself in! :( I didn't know him personally, but I graduated with both his mom and dad.

Come on up Tom, I'll let you use one of my climbing tree stands!

Stay safe Sue, might be time to batten down the hatches, hope not!
