How do you know it was you that shot him?

Yea, until the smoke screen clears it's more or less :fingerscrossed: and  !
Last time after the smoke cleared, the deer was still standing there looking at me. :facepalm:It takes awhile to get reloaded, by that time they are long gone!
I know I shot it, I'll be the only one cleaning the gun, I never leave black powder fouling in overnight and they are a PITB to clean properly.

    Evening all:
I hope it isn't this hard next year, we need to regroup and do things a little differently, especially during archery season. So far we have seen around 130 deer and our success rate is dismal, four days left till it's over!

Carl I hope during the last four days of the season you harvest " Ole Elmer" or whatever you call the largest buck in your hunting area.

Then time to think about walleye fishing.

    Afternoon all:
The good news for you guys is that there are only 3 days left of hunting stories, the bad news is that I have another one!
Today I was the dog for my buddy, first area I got a doe to fly by him at full speed, he never got a shot! Second area I got 2 buck out to him, 1 was legal, little far but he took a standing shot and the flintlock didn't fire! We are both shaking our heads and laughing at the same time over how this hunting season has gone so far.

    Morning all:
I'TS OVER, looking forward to next hunting season! Now time to get ready for ice fishing and maybe get out coyote hunting.
Todays plan of the day is to cut up the deer, then get more sausage made! :hungry:

Nowhere do I see any plan to fire up a grill. ;)

On a serious note do you age the venison or smoke the sausage?

We aged both deer, the guy that makes the sausage does smoking, but I don't get the sausage smoked. He makes excellent deer sticks/slim jims also, but usually I only get them made if I have a 2nd deer. When I do get them made they don't last long , plus I give some away to buddies.

Haven’t shared much on this thread lately but wanted to share my latest “upgrade”. Took advantage of the last MobTown armor sale and bought the final skid plate (transfer case) At 70 I have to consider what I can still do laying on my back in the driveway. Takes me a little longer then younger folks but finished the install in 3 hours. Now off to find some rock.

Well--- yes, but when it comes to deer meat or walleyes you're on your own! Heck, you get one of those bruisers up in Maine you probably have twice the meat we get from the average PA deer.

Thx for the information Carl. Sounds like you had a decent hunting season if you were able to give the surplus to friends.

    Morning all:
Not really surplus this year Tom. I shot two deer and my hunting buddy got none. :( We were hunting together, shared the "WORK", and it was only fair to split the harvest with him, he earned it. We ended up with the equivalent of one deer each after dividing each one in half, and the total amount of trimmed out meat came out to about 40lb each. And you think meat in a store is expensive, I don't even want to think about how much that 80lbs of deer meat cost us!  Maybe next year it will be his turn to fill the pot, never know, if we wouldn't have both missed a deer with the flintlocks the pot would be overflowing!
OH, plus the buck I missed with the crossbow!

I thought there would be more meat on a deer. I am not a hunter so I had no idea.

Fishing is not that inexpensive either, so good luck with fishing season this year.

Watching the news last night, story about a car dealer having 40 or so new cars broken into, electronics stolen, dashes wrecked, organized thieves taking only two minutes to remove items. Doing over half a million in damage. That's gotta hurt their sales as much less stock to sale. Let's get a hammer, axe or musclebound athlete, then proceed to break one finger at a time of the perps!
