Couple pics from my yard. North of me, they got 4' and 5' of snow overnight, schools on 2 hour delay. Highway out of town north bound is closed due to big rigs spinning out, supposed to be a all weather highway when I-80 is closed.

    Morning all:
Working on cleaning the furnace, I take my time! Went up to the garage yesterday and noticed the inside pane of a double pane vinyl window shattered :annoyed:, then going out the driveway this morning I noticed that someone had pulled off the road in my lower yard again and left huge ruts in it, :annoyed: :annoyed:!
One step forward, two back!!!!!! :( :frusty:

I hate when that happens, have asked the propane drivers to not back over my leach field, new guy every year.
Power is back on, will need my chainsaw to clear more limbs.

    That is the $64,000 question.

Oops, showing my age again. Probably not many people remember that TV show with the contestant in a soundproof booth.

Duane, how much food do you keep? Do you have to go, or just want to go?
We keep enough to stay put. Bad weather also brings out drivers that cannot drive. So, we stay put and play dominos.

I wanted to hit town on Monday, but had an appointment on Tuesday, so went Tuesday instead. It had been a week since I was in town, could have gotten by a few more days, bread was down to a couple slices. I try to have food to get by during a storm, not having to panic if a storm comes in. Only 8 miles or so to town, not much traffic into town as beyond where I live the road is closed for winter at Bucks Summit.
Heavy rain predicted did not happen o/n. Per the radio, north of me, truckers without chains have blocked a highway, waiting for tow trucks to get them moving. Another highway closed due to a tree across one lane, pretty dire up there.

Do you store anything dried like flour, fruit, milk, vegetables, soup mix or stuff for long term?
I use 3 & 5 gallon buckets with Gamma Lids. Beans, rice, garlic, salt, vegetables, etc.
Making bread is as easy as flat bread in a skillet, or bannock.
I keep a wild sourdough going, so I make (Great) bread.

I have a son who lives in North Salt Lake.

All of the houses there have a huge pantry ( large room) in the basement.

The LDS families keep a years supply of provisions on hand in accordance with church teaching.

We could all learn something about being prepared from them.

Tons of snow higher up here in Kalifornia, just rain at my place last few days. I-80 north of Lake Tahoe closed quite often last few days, down to a lane and a half, so blowers could come thru to widen road back to a couple lanes each direction. Supervisor in the area there said over 50' of snow so far. Closer to home, some snowmobilers missing for 3 or 4 days were found by their families SAR mission, alive.

Snow at Tahoe/Donner!! Think Donner party. "Ordeal by Hunger"
My last year living in Reno, 1983, that winter Tahoe Area got 12' of snow in 10 hours. Homes were buried, people could to get out easily only if they had 2 story homes. People burned furniture to stay warm.

A snow plow bumped a car, while clearing around the car so it could be towed, a homeless lady finally placed a hand on a window, so they dug the car out, she then left. No thanks I guess.

Yay, it's March! Closer to the early spring Punxatawny Phil promised us.

I've had my fill of winter for sure. We've had snow 3 days this week so far. Last night was 5" or so. Another 8" called for on Sunday night. Naturally we are leaving on vacation Monday. :annoyed: Folks have suggested we leave a day early but I think it will be better to stay and clean off the driveway before I leave, so the cat sitter / house watcher can get in and out without any trouble. She's not exactly a spring chicken.

Sigh. Hopefully in a couple of days I'll be able to say "hello from sunny Key West!" That is, if I bother to open the laptop!

    Afternoon all:
    Enjoy the vacation Dave!

We only got a couple inches here, I can put up with winters like this but fingers still crossed for the rest of the month.
