It has been explained to me that if you apply for SS at 62 you get what cannot be recovered if you wait till 65.
Check the numbers yourself. I know several people that applied early and are happy for it.

I'm drawing military retirement plus working as a college president so I haven't pulled the trigger yet on SS. My wife has - she retired to care for her parents and my mom so the numbers made sense. I will start next year when I retire for good - I won't hit the full amount but you are right that the numbers support starting early. I have to live to 94 to catch up - if I make it that far I'll still be happy.

    Morning all:
Welcome Dan, find a spot on the porch to put your rocker and join in.

    Happy birthday Mark.
IMO, in your situation I would grab SS ASAP, never know. I would say to someone who has minimal savings, no other pension, and lower earnings, that it probably would be best to wait and get the max. since that's the only income that will be coming in.

:( Nothing again this morning, I took a hike to a place I thought might produce, I thought wrong!

:woot: Finally saw 22.8 mpg, started out at 12.8-13.4, took awhile!

    Hi Sue!

I watched a flock of hens and Toms walking through my back yard towards our upper hill this morning. There is a guy we let hunt sitting up there...and they ended up out of range although he watched them walk by.

You sound like a good candidate to replace the Ever Ready battery bunny in the TV commercials. You just keep going, and going, and going.........

Drink more water, may help prevent cramps.
Repo pup and I out jogging just after 6 this AM, nippy, ther-mo-meter shows 29, couple pinkies got cold even with gloves on. Off camping tomorrow, meeting some Coleman Collectors for a couple days of camping, most I have never met, a couple have offered much help. Be good to meet and put faces with names.
Firewood rows are all organized again looking great. Will be nice when I start cutting more wood as I won't have to roll rounds around here and there to organize, deciding later how I want to stack rounds.
One red tulip blooming, a few other tulips about to bloom, Shooting Star is blooming, a few others may bloom. Snow is all gone where I walk Repo or jog.

    Afternoon all:
That's only in the fall Mike, in the spring it's shotgun or bow only since they must have a beard, in the fall we are allowed to use rifles since it's turkey season and either sex can be hunted.

A little late to the party, happy birthday all!

As for Social Security, you folks might want to take a fresh look at the plan. The age to receive "full" Social Security has been raised to 66 for quite some time. You can still start taking it at 62 but you really take a hit. You can also wait as late as 70 to start; each year you wait after 66 will get you an 8% raise. Actually each *month* you wait after 66 will get you a raise, calculated at a rate of 8% a year, so it's something like 3/4% per month increase after you turn 66.

My wife started at taking SS at 66. (She's a tad older than me.) Her financial guru is telling me to wait until 70 if I can; I think it's because I'm still earning a decent wage in a job that isn't physically demanding. I just turned 66 though, and I have to say I'm tempted.

Coming back around to Tacomas -- ours has a mystery dent in the right rear fender. :(:(:( No idea how it happened. We don't use the truck much, mostly it sits in the garage waiting for us to do "truck stuff". We had some trees cut down to make way for the garage we're building, and I rented a splitter to make firewood. So I had the Taco out for some errands for one day before going over to get the splitter. Someone must have backed into it. Dang. I'm hoping it's a PDR job but we'll see.

:(:(:( That stinks Dave, happened to my mothers car a couple times, once almost the whole side got caved in, and the other time the bumper got ripped off the one side---of course no note!

I think that the turkeys went extinct in our area, I can't even find one, hit two spots today and nothing at all! :(
