:(:(:( That stinks Dave, happened to my mothers car a couple times, once almost the whole side got caved in, and the other time the bumper got ripped off the one side---of course no note!

I think that the turkeys went extinct in our area, I can't even find one, hit two spots today and nothing at all! :(

If you retire before 70, you need to calculate how many years it would take for benefits to intersect from age 70 and 65 or other age. I figured at around 80 something, later retirement would finally catch up. If you have income from other sources, do you need that extra 8% increase each year?

Exactly, Duane. It will take me 18 years to hit the point where the lines cross for me if I start taking it at 65 and 2/12ths. Just as when I opted to retire from the Army at 26 years of active duty - getting 65% instead of 75% of my base pay was worth the trade off of having to uproot Lynn and move overseas at least once more plus I had a job available at the college. Add to that the other retirement investments and the SS is just one piece of our total retirement plan.

My wife opted early. My income and not having to work any longer were the factors choising early rather than later. I talked her into it, as we are fine not waiting.
We took a 6 and a half week road trip the day she last worked. She has not regretted it once. No one on their death bed said they wish they had worked more. :)
At 65 it was reduced monthly by paying for Medicare.

I retired at 62 and took early S.S. Benefits and would do the same thing again with the situation I was in. The company I worked for had been sold and the new company was systematically weeding out the highest paid workers in each job title. Very unlikely I would have lasted 4 more years until "normal" retirement age at 66.

Each person needs to do what is best for them. That is what I did.

    Evening all:
:woot: we managed to get 3 walleyes last night! Started out good then went South, when we left there was a heavy mist moving down the lake which normally shuts them down for whatever reason.

Got my fishing license over a week ago, but where some of us Coleman Collectors camped, shore was very shallow, stuff suspended in the water, so no fishing. Poor Repo had to be leashed or tied up all the time except for walks outside the CG. Poison Oak everywhere.

Just want to go ahead and wish all mothers a Happy Mother's Day a little early.

What a blessing to have the influence a mother offers while demonstrating unconditional love.

    Update on that punk....

"Police say Ramone Sanabria's mother contacted officers Wednesday night after seeing the video herself.

Sanabria agreed to turn himself in to take responsibility for his actions."

    Morning all:
Only 3 walleyes so far, picked up 2 small stripers on another night.
Mowed about 2/3 of the yard yesterday, the rest is way too wet.
    No turkey, still have time!
The river is too high to fish for shad or walleye.
    It's raining again.
    :( :annoyed:

I "retired" at 62 after running the numbers. I would have to live until I am 89 to exceed the money by retiring at 62. Then SS sent me a letter saying my son was eligible for benefits, when I ran the numbers again I would have to live until I was 112. No brainer for me.

Sorry about the Tacoma dent. You might want to look at a paintless dent removal person to fix the dent. I agree everyone's situation is different for when to take SS. You need to run the numbers for your situation, and do not forget gas and wear/tear on the car. That is a real expense.

I had the same situation. I chose to let them come and tap me on the shoulder. It was good for 6 months severance pay. I turned 62 two weeks later. In Maryland you can receive unemployment and SS at the same time. Unemployment pay is actually a benefit you receive from your previous employer if you do not quit or are fired.

Ken and Duane: Do either of you have a recommendation for a dedicated griddle? I know it is not a camp stove but it is sort of similar.

I dont use one, it is just me, so a frying pan for bacon or sausage, then my egg. Many times I brown a pre-buttered English muffin just before the egg, can slip the meat along the egg to warm back up.
